Lolita
Once again, think about the role of fate vs. free will; this time in Lolita. Humbert is constantly referring to events as though they are preordained by Fate, Coincidence, and/or even the Devil; this is especially true for incidents that work out in Humbert’s favor. What in the novel, if anything, can we reasonably credit to being outside of his control?
