“Children of the Sun” by Alfred Crosby

Alfred Crosby’s main point in this book is a controversial one, as Crosby states that we should be “required to assess what our species will do to the biosphere and to itself if its energy greed is not satisfied by nuclear power” (p. 144). Write a paper of at least three pages explaining how Crosby’s view of humankind’s appetite for energy over the long sweep of history has led him to champion nuclear power. Agree or disagree with his contention that nuclear energy is necessary for our future, while considering Crosby’s summary of alternative, non-nuclear possibilities for energy generation and his discussion of nuclear fission and nuclear fusion. Utilize two outside sources to support your argument.
