Outline a proposed cinematic project. It should describe in detail the proposed cinematic subject, provide a list of possible stylistic and methodological issues that reflect your engagement with course materials, and discuss how your chosen methods are appropriate to your selected form of cinematic media. While film does not have to be about Postwar Japan/Okinawa/Cold War East Asia, it should reflect serious consideration of the relationships between cinematic media and social historical transformations we have discussed in this course. Take the time to examine what is changing around you today and how you would make a film to engage these changes by drawing upon the examples we have seen in this class.
The body of your paper should consist of at least three main parts:
Introduction and overview of proposed film. (What are you proposing and why?) [20%]
Outline of proposed stylistic approaches. Draw on examples from at least three of the films we have seen thus far (You may additionally cite in brief essential stylistic concerns of other films you like from outside this class only when directly relevant) [40%]
Discussion of your proposed film in relation to central issues from class. (How does your proposed film address the problems, possibilities and limitations of the works and readings we have studied in this course? For example, how would your engage the particular social historical realities of the viewer? What kinds of human relationships would it depict and why? How will your proposed film relate to the diverse forms of counter-media we have explored in the course and why?) [40%]
Your paper should not include:
lengthy plot descriptions of any kind, these are irrelevant
lengthy summaries/descriptions or details of other movies from outside this class
un-cited resources, duplications from on-line discussions, improper usage of pre-existing materials of any kind, adaptations of Hollywood films or media.
You may also provide a supplemental list of links, readings (books, articles, newspapers, blogs, or any typed source) and other material (youtube links, soundtrack music, photos, etc.) that directly relate and inform your proposed film.
