Part 1: Outline
“Flesh” out your topic so that you will have a good idea of what you want to cover and I can offer useful advice. Here is what I want you to tell me:
Your specific topic (ex. climate change and the impact on primates)
Your research question or working thesis (please review Creating Strong Thesis Statements.html to help you write this)
Why you’re interested in the topic
The focused aspects of the topic that you plan to analyze
The obstacles you feel you might encounter in your research
What audience you feel would be most receptive to the topic
Part 2: Bibliography
Now that you know what you’re looking for, put together a list of at least six sources that you are considering for your Research Project. Don’t worry if you don’t end up using them. That is what makes this preliminary. I just want to see what kinds of sources you are finding. This is also another chance to practice MLA format as well as to have your research inform your writing process.
Here are the specific requirements:
Use full sentences for your outline. Be certain to include a strong working thesis (see Creating Strong Thesis Statements.html)
In general, your list of sources should look like a Work Cited page but titled Bibliography. Follow all rules for MLA formatting.
At least six significant sources (be sure that they are credible. Remember that you are limited in the number of websites that you can use, and that you want the strongest possible sources. Review Chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 in Writing Research Papers ).
Try for a good mix of source types (online, journal, book, newspaper, etc.)
