Americans may be the most advertisement-bombarded people in earth. Daily, we are exposed to advertisements from television and radio, in newspapers and magazines, on signs as we go about business, and even in out mailboxes. Most of us are exposed, to over 3,000 advertisements daily and so it is important to look at how advertisements affect us how advertisers lead us to buy certain products, how our needs and fears make us vulnerable to subliminal message in ads, how advertising texts trick us into believing we are buying the best products.
Your assignment is to write a through analysis of One Advertisement, showing how the ad works. Don t spend your whole essay condemning the advertisement; it s far more interesting to figure out how the ad is successful. How the ad maneuvers us into wanting something. Pick an ad that you find interesting, attractive, persuasive, or shocking and show our reader how the ad works.
Some Suggestions:
Focus your essay around a central idea- a main point about your ad s central message. What are the advertisers really selling? How do the advertisers manipulate the audience into buying their product? What is the ads main gimmick?
Describe your advertisement carefully, showing how colors, models body language and facial expression, setting, text, and other elements specific to your ad contribute to the central message of the ad.
Consider the intended or target audience for your ad (age, gender, socioeconomic, status, values, priorities, interests), and show which particular features of the ad reveal this information.
Explore the possible effects the advertisement might have ipon viewers. Is the ads message positive or negative? How might the ad affect particular viewers? How might it impact their thinking, their beliefs, their perceptions?
What is the ad about? What is it selling?
You have to choose an advertisement from a magazine and you will need to let me know which magazine and what ad you have chosen in order for me to get the same ad as i need to turn it with with the paper.
And I have to turn the paper in to the school website which does a database internet search to see if any of it plagiarized or not.
