Assigned poem project
1. In reading the poem for the first time, I tend to think that Joy Harjo meant in the poem that the people depended on the rainbow to receive vision. The first reading of the poem made me think that the poet, Joy Harjo was revealing that the people depended on the rainbow for rainfall. Since the first stanza of the poem only focuses on the colors of the rainbow and the manner in which the people visualize it, I assumed that the meaning of the poem was the people in addition, the rainbow.
2. Most parts of the poem pleased me because reading the poem was fluent and I would understand it.
3. However, after checking some words such as Rio Grande and Isleta I gained knowledge that the poem was not actually focusing on the rainbow. Reading the poem several times assisted me in obtaining the actual meaning of the poem. This altered my first response, which was mainly focusing on the rainbow as the key storyline of the poem. Eventually, I realized that the poem was discussing about the way the local heroes are not appreciated by the members of the society.
Speakers and tone
1. The speaker in the poem is in the poem is a patriotic citizen that is trying to inform the rest of the society the way it has neglected its own members of the society. Just like the most of the society, the people in Rio Grande and Isleta await for the intruders in the society to salvage them to freedom.
2. The speaker of the poem vision knows what he/she is talking about since the poem logically describes in poetic language the way the people of Rio Grande and Isleta have neglected their own leaders. Instead, they await other people from the rest of the world to listen to and follow keenly what they say.
3. The speaker in the poem reflects on the experiences of how the heroic members of the society are assumed. This is portrayed by the use of the various language structures to initiate the idea that most of the society depends on the information obtained from the other members of the society.
Audience
1. The speaker in the poem mostly focuses on the audience who are the members of the people that belong to Rio Grande and Isleta.
2. The speaker is trying to convey the message to an entire society informing them the importance of the local leaders that the people are ignoring. Although the information is not portrayed in a direct manner, but an in-depth analysis of the poem indicates that the speaker is revealing some hidden ideas to a group of people.
Structure and form
1. The poem is portrayed in a straightforward way in which the speaker focuses on the main theme, which is providing hidden information to the people. There is no instance in the poem that the speaker divergence from the idea of the rainbow and the people. The speaker in the poem maintains the same tone from the commencing of the poem to the conclusion.
2. The poem is organized in stanzas to ensure that the reader flows while he/she is reading the poem. Each of the stanzas portrays a diverse meaning, which reveals the poem wants the people to understand.
3. The poem is not structured in any organized form and the rhyme does not flow from one stanza to the next. This depicts that the poet, Joy Harjo mainly focused on the message passed to the audience than the rhyme and flow of the sentences.
Centre of interest and theme.
1. The poem is interests in meditation in that the reader has to read the poem over again to achieve the hidden meaning intended by the poem. This means the poem is chiefly philosophical.
2. The theme of the poem is implicitly stated in that it is not direct and cannot be viewed by the reader directly. The theme of the poem is to inform the people of Grande and Isleta to pay attention to their own leaders. The emphasize of the words used by the poet is lost in summarizing the poem.
Diction
1. The language used by the poet, Joy Harjo in writing the poem is colloquial since the words used are normal day-to-day words. For this reason, everyone can simply understand the poem.
2. The words used in the poem are unique and are not closely related to each other. For instance, the poet talks of the rainbow and the horses. The words have no close association to each other in any manner.
3. In the poem, Vision by Harjo Joy, there are various instances of figurative language used. The role of the figurative language is to ensure that only selective members of the society understand the meaning of the poem.
4. The rainbow in the poem is to be taken figuratively since it has hidden meaning but Rio Grande and Isleta is to be taken literally to mean place.

1. The role of sound effects in the poem is for the purpose of emphasizes especially to ensure that the reader obtains the actual message intended by the poet.
