The company selected and the products or services they sell
DHL Express
As a logistics company, it provides international mail services express and shipments. It operates globally being the leader in the World Sea and airmail.
Services
The global headquarters of the DHL express is in Bonn forming part of Deutsche Post. Majority of its businesses is integrated as DHL international. The minor partnership that DHL has with USPS enables the delivery of small packages to some of the recipients in the course of the network of USPS. DHL is also a sole provider to the transfer of USPS mail from and to Afghanistan and Iraq. DHL in the long run has been offering worldwide services inclusive of countries delivery e.g. Burma. It ships commodities to countries including Cuba and North Korea. This is without sanctions or embargoes from the U.S. However, strict codes are involved in the deliveries made to North Korea due to the shaky relations existing linking it to the west. However, due to DHL not being a US company, it is not capable of making domestic flights linked between the US airports. The services are contracted to other specialized providers in the same line (Hitt et al, 2011).
FedEx
The corporation, which was originally referred to as FDX Corporation, is a company that offers global logistic services. An American company, it bases in US with its headquarters located in Memphis, Tennessee. The corporation organizes into functional, operating units with each having its own version. The version is of wordmark that was a design by Landor Associates Lindon Leader based in San Francisco (Basch, 2002).
Services
The corporation operates a civil aircraft considered the world’s largest fleet. This is widely bodied carrying bulky freight in comparison to other involved airlines. It has a division that handles home delivery or specialized residential delivery with options in the provision of flexibility to the recipients. It majorly bases the operation in the US but handles business deliveries in Canada including residential deliveries too. The FedEx Corporation also handles delivery of valuable, urgent or commodities considered hazardous using chartered aircraft and tracks. They do not accept transportation of freights including alcohol, perishable goods, household goods, livestock, money and hazardous waste. The contracted drivers operate independently with their own vehicles. FedEx also operates in logistic services provision e.g. fulfillment services and inventory logistics. It provides marketing globally, IT services and planning to its other operating companies (Basch, 2002).
The target market
The identification of a target is significant to the FedEx and DHL success. For the two corporations to market their logistical services, they have to strategize on the best target for their services and products. They have been in the long run identifying and profiling customers through the examination of psychographic, demographic and behavioral variances amongst their potential buyers including production companies. The logistical corporations base their interest in inter- continental and offshore deliveries of mail. Demographically, FedEx and DHL’s target market is extensively broad since they operate globally (Hitt et al, 2011).
