Immigrant’s rights
Introduction
An immigrant is any person who possesses the citizenship of one country and enters another country with the aim of setting up a permanent residence there. Over the last couple of years, there have been constant immigration related news, the attention of the press has been flattering and even within the local suburb, and there have been protest in favor of immigrants or against immigrants. There have been various reasons why there are appraisals over immigrants in the western block. Though the reasons are different, the main reasons were the possibility of job loss, poor housing for the locals and the burden that the immigrants add to the government of the host country and the tax payers in terms of support for both legal and illegal; immigrants.
However, the politics around the subject of immigrants is complicated and, the government of the host country has to find the right balance between the needs of the electorate and the right of the immigrants. The government has had to lie low on the problem and leave the immigrants in the hands of the unscrupulous individuals. Perhaps determining the reason why individuals might choose to immigrate to a country is the best move in a attempt to resolve the off the government can handle the issues of the immigrants.
Why Do Immigrants Want to Come Here?
Economic reasons
There have been cases of cross border immigration for decades now, from the 17th century during the slave trade and is here to visit. Most people moved in search of high life while some look for jobs due the escalating unemployment in their countries. However, economic reasons are the key factors that have led to the influx of immigrants in the developed countries. Most countries continue to meet continued economic uncertainty in their home countries. Other reason includes soft economies and unemployment in their home countries.
Social reasons:
When people move from their home countries to another, they tend to develop a culture that embodies them to the societies of the host country. The social integration of immigrants to the host society makes it difficult for them to leave for their countries. Immigrants have an innate relationship with their siblings and relatives; they begin to invite their relatives (chain migration). However, it is also exciting to note that, immigrants are social animals; they feel that they are economically, emotionally and socially secure when their relatives are with them in the host country, therefore, they feel detached to their motherland. A sizeable population of immigrant makes immigrants fonder to be living overseas. As they continue to interact, they marry; have children thereby increasing the immigrant society in the host country.
Most of the legal immigrants flee persecution for their belief or the divisive politics in their countries. However, with all the promise of greatness and bright future and god working conditions, most immigrants are subjected to unusually strange working conditions while the others end up indulging in various disruptive activities and even become juveniles.
Recommended policy
The Urgent Need for Improved Workplace Safety and Health Policies and Program
The government through an established, work-force safety regulating body, should ensure that the employer provide the immigrants with a safe working environment. Employers should allow the immigrants to work for the same pay and in similar work conditions as the citizens of the country. Foreign governments should allow the immigrants to communicate with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspectors in order to complain to them in case of any infringement of their working rights
The OSHA should increase local working precedence whenever the employers subject the immigrants to poor, working conditions. The OSHA should be empowered to establish penalties for those organizations with limited, working conditions. There have been situations where workers employees penalize workers for filing in workers compensation claims. Any employee reported doing so should be served with a court claim. The government of the host country should develop policies geared at protecting everyone granted concession to stay within the confines of the host country; regardless of the how they entered the country.
Global citizenship
The human rights act of most countries facing the influx of immigrants is against the suffering of individuals are subjection of individuals to discriminatory acts such as racism, sexual
The Basic Rights
Governments should grant immigrants their basic rights as stipulated by human rights acts of different countries. For example in the UK, human rights act section 2 states that even those immigrants detained while applying for permission to stay in the country must be handled in ways that protect their safety and personal freedom. Additionally, foreign governments should protect immigrants because the act requires the government to protect family life. Article 8 states that; individuals should be offered asylum when there is no safe alternative and the foreigner can not be deported to his mother county. Other rights include social rights such as freedom, education and medical care; civil rights economic rights and cultural rights.
Conclusion
Government with immigrants in their countries should allow immigrants their rights irrespective of their citizenship status citizens, national, denizens or undocumented immigrants. Governments should consider global citizenship to all immigrants and offer relief to the immigrants in their countries. Foreign government should grant immigrants their rights in totality because most legislation geared at curbing the influx of immigrant community does not work.
