Third world
Third world is a phrase used for countries which during cold world war supported neither part of NATO nor Soviet countries. Most of these states their basis is Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Oceanic. They are categorically needy based on: political, economical and socially where in most cases depend on the highly advanced states. The urbanized ones are the western states whose their three mentioned sectors are well organized and far higher as opposed to the Third. Most of these states were former colonies of the developed states which have assumed name of First World. Since their self-rule until now, they are slugging themselves to come up with better sectors of governance. This will enable them to remove many of the problems which faced their counterparts many decades before they colonized Third world.
Currently, they are faced terribly dirty sectors of governance whose the leaders are autocrats for example in Africa. This evidenced where when an employer loses in general elections results to manipulating power of the gun and his loyal sycophants. For instance, in fresh Ivory Coast before Gbagbo was forced to step down. These states are severely challenged by the setback of climate change. Since they have not laid down strategies, on how to handle its impacts, typically in the farming sector as most of them depend on it. Poverty, diseases and where economic challenges in these states’ top lists to solve once they achieve liberation but till now they have not managed.
Major problems facing the Third World
Corruption
The most obvious problem in the Third Word is dire process of sovereignty coupled with tremendous corruption. This depicted by novelist Chinua Achebe’s literature in his book of “A man of People” where he depicts a terribly corrupt Honorable Chief Nanga, who was an elementary school teacher. The whole story of this book revolves around dirty politics where young and educated cannot access the required percentage of their toil. In Third World, corrupt leaders are out to benefit themselves and when they realize any kind of mental competition they give to blunt attacking of the foresighted young elites. Corruption is deeply ingrained in these states to appoint where elections are not free and just. They are characterized by numerous irregularities where the rich powerful leaders manipulate the events of the day.
This saw writers like Achebe and others, calling upon the young and caring leaders to refrain from this behavior. He also insisted on the focus of the welfare of the states for no one will come from outside to build states’ economies. Besides earlier colonial struggle, we observe internal struggles between fore sighted elites who are challenging the acquisitive set to unclench their countries from corruption for them to move forward. This is witnessed by Achebe in Nigeria when he authors the book: “Anthills of savannah” where he says that widespread corruption is disrupting efforts of development especially the developing sates.
Urbanization
The issue of urbanization is extremely intense by developing and strong men move to the cities which led to gender imbalance in the rural. This yielded to their wives being ill-treated by their relatives who referred them as subordinates. To curb this, women resulted to freedom where it meant to think of different roles of family upbringing. Women started to manage their families since their spouses were unavailable to cater for the required guidance. The after end results were; that growing of, young fresh crop of young men who lacked father figure lacking basic morals.
Third world authorities had to deal with the issue of urbanization until now. This is because they lack adequate scientific expertise on how to manage urban complicated problems. These problems included scanty social amenities of people living in large cities’ slums. For instance, slums of Soweto in South Africa and Kibera in Kenya which are the foremost in Africa. In Latin America, the issue of migration was distinct from those of Africa as it concerned families. These families belonged to landless people who worked in rich people’s farms for survival. Single ladies and men were more likely to migrate as they were most needed in cities as domestic workers.
Increasing diversity
Increasing diversity between the haves and have not as far as money is concerned. For example, the growth of average earners, who are totally depending on the mercy of ever changing economy. This has caused severe toiling among workers who their day’s income cannot encourage them. Currently, the third states have been observed in world news who demonstrating on the issue of the rising rate of inflation. This is a clear illustration of poor states’ strategies to come up with solutions of dealing with their financial problems, and start blaming global business standards.
Rural poverty
Third Word is still affected by serious and enduring rural poverty. Since the people who normally abode these areas are the elderly, as the juvenile has moved to the cities to look for jobs and training. The few left has no skills of enhanced farming methods which they can embrace. So as the issue of global climate change does not touch them. Also the governments have been reluctant to installing better ways of farming and implementing new technology. Due to these many community have kept on doing the old outmoded ways of farming where some keeping the old nomadic practices.
Efforts made to solve problems and what size and the amount of success so far
Third World population is waking up and some governments are now putting in place air tight corruption measures to eliminate the vice. This has been a witness by some formulating new constitutions in their states and coming out with penalties of those convicted of the vice, for example Kenya. Also due to weather unpredictability agriculture sectors have resulted to irrigation which has made some states enough food for their population. In the sector of infrastructure, substantial steps have been made to increase the rate of industrialization. This is termed to be a measure of progress in the Third World which esteems industrialization.
The mode of governance has changed as the majority being ruled has come to know their rights and now they want replacement. This has been witnessed where recognized leaders and their governments are being overthrown through peaceful demonstrations. For example, in Africa recently we saw Egypt’s portion head being denied by his people. He had ruled for long enough, and then he stood on the way of having another strong blood in the seat. This leads to people demonstrating for almost two weeks get him adhere to step down.
Third World people have come to accept their importance and how they viewed themselves as inferior to westerners is now vanishing away. Now they can interact directly with them and even supersede them in each activity they undertake.
