The article The Marcus Garvey and Universal Negro Improvement Association Papers Project analyses the Pan-African movement of Marcus and UNIA. Marcus Garvey was the head of UNIA which was the largest organized mass movement for the blacks in history. He led the group in fighting for the justice, freedom and equality. The article offers a brief history of Marcus Garvey by stating his date of birth as 17th August in 1887. He was born in Jamaica, but spent some time in America where he gained experience in nationalism. He returned to Jamaica where he found the UNIA chapter that he later developed in New York. The article notes that he made numerous efforts to strengthen the movement including developing a shipping line that was used in transporting passengers between the Caribbean, America and Africa. The shipping line also acted as a symbol of black enterprise . The article’s author notes that by 1920, the UNIA had several chapters across the globe.
The article is of good quality. It provides extensive information on Marcus Garvey and UNIA movement. This enables the researcher all the information regarding the history of the black movement. The article also provides for dates on the occurrence of events making it easy to follow the events of activities of Marcus Garvey and UNIA. It also gives examples of speeches made by Marcus Garvey in articulating his ideas. This makes the information provided by the article more credible. However, the author uses very few citations in his work making the article to be subjective. The author should use more citations in order to improve credibility of the information.
William Galwey Donovan and the Struggle for Political Change in Grenada, 1883–1920. Edward L. Cox

The article William Galwey Donovan and the Struggle for Political Change in Grenada, presents an analysis of the political activities of William Donovan and his colleagues in an effort to effect constitutional changes. The article also analyses the past tradition of protests in the early twentieth century. The author further provides an analysis of the history of Grenada politics. Donovan was a journalist cum political activist who used the media to articulate his political ideas. He called for unity among the Caribbean citizens in order to enable them gain self-government. In addition, he championed for women’s rights particularly the right to vote. His efforts were rewarded when in 1930 women who were above the age of thirty and possessing relevant property qualifications were allowed to vote for LEGCO . The article’s author argues that Donovan deserves the title “Grandfather of the Federation” because his political ideologies and culture had been recognized by Marrshow, “Father of the Federation”
I consider the article to be of good quality for historical research. The article has a good introduction and arranges its events in a chronological order. This provides for easy flow of information.
