Listening List 2: Classical music pieces and their various characteristics

Mozart, Amadeus Wolfgang was a German music fanatic and specialist that enjoyed and composed serenade music. This music in German was known as Eine Kleine Nacht Musik. Not only was his music sensational but also the evidence of a musical genius. Mozart’s genre of music was separated into a number of movements. Each movement had a different tune and touch and each of them evoked different feelings and emotions. In the context, we will discuss two major movements, the first and the third. These movements not only differ in nature but also in their mode of composition (Forney & Machlis 2007). Mozart’s music takes the instrumentation of string instruments only, for instance the violin, cello and the vielle.
The first group takes a more sonata-allegro form which incorporates rise in the tunes antagonistically to a certain level in a G major. These tunes then descend mildly closing in a D major. The G major is more dominant in this case. The first part resumes, peaking at the G major then the second part follows suit in that manner. For the third movement, however this pattern takes a different course. The Third movement incorporates a tune that follows an A-B-A pattern in which both the G major and the D major share the same spotlight. Mozart’s music didn’t follow this exact pattern. This is the reason as to why his music was more spectacular and original as compared to any other musician’s. He always developed some other tunes within his music changing the tune and rhythm for better (Forney & Machlis 2007).
The Haydn: Symphony, a symphony named after another music legend, Joseph Haydn was another spectacular piece of music. At times, it was referred to as surprise symphony. This genre incorporates a tune that kind of causes a rush or a surprise and then takes away the feeling in the second part of the tune. This sudden rise in the tune kind of surprises people and then the tune returns to its quiet nature taking away the rise in emotions in a snap. Another symphony that is not only memorable but among the greatest to have ever been formed is the Beethoven: Symphony No. 5 in C minor. Composed by Ludwig Van Beethoven, this is one of the most cherished branches of classical music cherished by the majority of the listeners to date. It is sort of the heart of classical music. To date, this new invention by Beethoven is incorporated in various genres such as the rock and roll as well as the pop culture genre. Mario Venzago is one musician who has become renown through the use of Beethoven’s composition. He is an orchestra musician today who is popular for the nature of his soothing tunes. Beethoven strayed a little from the typical sonata composition style by incorporating other styles in the same song. These were sonata, andante, scherzo, attacca (Forney & Machlis 2007).
Mozart also came up with a new invention in the history of classical music which was the Mozart Piano concerto in G major K. 453 which at times regarded as his greatest and most demanding compositions. This musical expertise involves two classes of instruments (preferably and piano and a set of violins) in which the first is played and then the second, a group of similar instruments are then played. This pattern is continuously played forming a complex rhythm. This results in a form of a pull and push between the separate instruments. It is regarded as the “flight” for this reason. In this piece, Mozart was ‘obedient’ enough to follow the specifications of sonata form music. The main difference between this type of music and the Eine Kleine Nacht Musik is the instrumentation. The Eine Kleine Nacht Musik is solely an orchestra while as the concerto involves a series of instrument, the piano being one of them and the second set being an orchestra.
Beethoven: Moonlight Sonata is another piece that was quite magnificent. A piano is used in this piece. The piece is divided into movements two. The difference between the first movement and the second is the tone and the manner of playing. The first movement takes to a more dark and whispering form, which takes a slower tune. The second movement is more comical and a little bit more energetic and fast as compared to the first movement. Schubert: Erlking can be termed as the most complex of the classical pieces. This is more so because of the voice that accompanies the tunes and the rhythms. Composed by Johan wolf gang von Gothe, this piece has seen several changes by other people through time. The repetition of the piano notes represents tension that mounts in the process of the conversation, which is contained in the lyrics. The voice used in reciting the lyrics represents various characters. These are the narrator of the incidence, a father, a young boy and Erl king, a character who is promising the boy that if the child came with him; he would treat him in the best way possible (Forney & Machlis 2007). The characters are of different pitches and thus and tones. To differentiate the characters, the soloist varies the voice and the tone. There is also the rise in the tempo of the instruments to serve that very purpose.
