The future of food
Make an argument for or against this law.
The film “The future of food” illustrates that the law denies the governors of the Monsanto the right to own the seeds. Though these researchers have tried their level best to genetically modify the seeds to better the human society they are the same people who manufactured the nuclear bombs that were used during the first and the Second World War. This nuclear bombs lead to the produce of nitrogen base chemical manure that destroyed the natural fertilizers found in the soil. This has really affected the variety of the food crops that are grown all over the world. For instance several varieties of apple were grown in the United States in the nineteenth century compared to the four brands that are only grown today. This has encouraged the uniformity of the crops that are grown all over the world thus making it easier for the insects to demolish the crops by eating them in a uniform manner and all over the world.
The governors of the Monsanto have henceforth manufactured new types of insecticides and chemicals that have worsened the situation that was there before by making the insects to naturally evolve to the changes in the chemicals. This is considered as being unjust since the Monsanto chemical company has based their efforts in making more money rather than caring for the people. The generic engineering performed by the Monsanto Company has also increased the amount of chemicals in the food that are daily consumed by human being. This is very wrong of them since they increase the amount of chemicals found in the body thus lead to the loss of death.
According to the film “The future of food” it is the seed are not supposed to be owned by the selfish governors of the Monsanto researches whose main agenda is to make money out of the whole idea of modifying the genetic structure of the seeds. The film “The future of food” strongly suggests that the seeds should be owned by the nature since they are not a personal property. This is for the reasons that the seeds were readily available in the world even before the discovery made by the scientists. The Monsanto researches have just tried to modify the seeds that already existed and in fact changed the seeds in worsen the situation. The human beings should not own the plants and animals because no human being can own the other. This directly illustrates that both the seeds and animals are not owned by the human beings but with the natural nature which controls the entire humans and plant existence. Various issues such as outbreak of some diseases might kill all the crops thus leading to the loss of life. This made the scientists to invent new genes that are resistant to the pests thus ensuring that the people will have readily available food.
Deontology which is one of the key ethical theories can be used to support this argument since it entails how one single party can be very essential in protecting the other parties. The ethical theory, deontology illustrates that most vital aspect of the lives of the entire humanity society is controlled by indestructible regulations and rules. The theory further elaborates that these regulations and rules may not be interfered with even though they might tend to upgrade the normal life of man. This vividly explains this situation since the agricultural companies have taken an initiative to genetically modify the seeds for the better production of the farms input thus providing food to the entire world. However this does not give them the mandate of suggesting that they are the founder of seeds. Utilitarianism which is also an ethical theory can be used to support my choice since it suggests that what is right is more important than the use of the component.
