An application demonstrating the relevance of the answer is included where appropriate. 500-750 words.

B

Every element of the question is answered. Answers are thorough, evidence a sound understanding of the issues, are logically consistent, well organized, and clearly stated. Assertions are focused tightly on the actual question and are backed up with at least one scholarly source beyond the textbook. Cited sources are properly documented with footnotes or parenthetical references. Grammar, spelling, and other elements of academic writing have few errors. 500-750 words.

C

Most elements of the question are answered. Answers evidence some confusion on the issues and are not always clearly stated. Answers are not focused tightly on the actual question but relate in general terms to the primary topic. Assertions are backed up with popular sources and/or the course textbook(s). Grammar, spelling, and other elements of academic writing have a moderate number of errors. 500-750 words.

D

Some elements of the question are addressed. Answers are not clearly stated. Answers stray off topic. Assertions are not backed up with other sources. Grammar, spelling, and other elements of writing have a several errors.

F

A reply is submitted, but the question remains largely unanswered.
