Purpose of the Assignment:
The purpose of this assignment is to allow you the opportunity to apply theory, concepts and techniques from class to a real case study. Your team has been hired as consultants to develop a marketing research proposal in response to the marketing problem presented in your particular case. You will have the opportunity to professionally present your research proposal to your peers.
Guidelines for Research Proposal:
For the written group project:
1. Each group will develop a marketing research proposal for an assigned case.
2. The assigned cases and the sequence of presentations will be determined by the instructor shortly after the team formation.
Physical requirements of the marketing research proposal:
1. Prepare a (approx.) 15 page research proposal, excluding the cover letter, title page, the table of contents, references, and appendices.
2. 1.5 line spacing; 12 pt font, with one inch margins.
3. Use business writing format, flush left margin with headings, double space between paragraphs, ragged right and no indentations.
4. Prepare your report in a professional, clear, concise, well organized manner.
5. Use numbered headings and subheadings to better organise the work for ease of reading and marking.
6. You will want to undertake secondary research to gain a broader understanding of the industry/research problem. Use proper APA referencing style, use in text citations to cite references in the main body of the paper and list these sources in a references list.
7. Assignments must be free of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors.
8. The research proposal will take the shape of and include those elements described in the Proposal Outline (Exhibit 2-25 p 62, Chakrapani & Deal).
9. A powerpoint on proposal development and the contents of the specific sections of the assignnment is posted on D2L to support you in this assignment.
10. As part of the proposed field methodology, your team will prepare an appropriate data gathering tool.
Guidelines for Presentation of the Research Proposal:
1. The time for each presentation is 15(±2) minutes followed by a Q&A section.
2. The presentation should include a short section describing the background information about the case.
3. Refer to your student handbook for best practice in oral presentations.
4. Test any hyperlinks prior to your presentation.
5. Treat this presentation as if you were consultants presenting your marketing research proposal to your potential client.
Oral presentations are graded on the basis of
1. Content of presentation: Consisting of presentation objectives, quality of content, and quality of argument.
2. Process of presentation: Consisting of planning/organization of material, linkage, use of language, use of body language, support materials, use of time, group functioning, audience, and response to questions.
3. Avoid reading from slides and use notes minimally.
4. Refer to the attached grading matrix.
