20 points Maggie is my sister in law. She has been married to my eldest brother for fifteen years. Maggie has been my mentor too for six years. Her passion for nursing has been my motivation. The tales that she has to relate to her nursing practice, particularly the disaster and the military operations mirror a promising profession that prolongs life. The circumstances through which Maggie has offered palliative care to the terminally ill entangled in disaster is overwhelming, thus, the choice of her being my mentor, besides being my sister in-law.

Serving as a nurse in Iraq with doctors without borders organization, Maggie has a vivid memory of the heart-wrenching scenarios of nursing practice within a geographic area engulfed in war. The major memories can take cognizance and blend with the Iraq culture in order to enable one practice nursing within the society. Maggie had to treat patients whose culture contradicted her home culture, specifically religiously. She had to wear her Hijab always besides learning Arabic in order to enable her to communicate with the patients effectively.

The second memory vivid to Maggie is an aspect of saving the limbs of those who suffer wounds in war and saving their lives as well. As a nurse, Maggie had to keep confidentiality of the patients and not to divulge any information to the American troops on the whereabouts of the Iraq troops. She kept the information of her patients confidential. The attributes enhance her professional ethics, which influenced me to choose her.

Maggie’s Contributions to Nursing

Maggie has been a participant in various national and international symposia. Her area of interest in the field of nursing is the integration of other disciplines with nursing for effective delivery of the nursing services. A specific area of interest is a blend of anthropology and nursing. Anthropology studies the ways of life of people and influences on their behavior. The practice of nursing in diverse environments requires a nurse to understand the culture of the target patients in order to enhance communication and effective delivery of the nursing services. Maggie has written conference papers on her Iraq experience explaining how the study of Arabic and the Muslim cultural practices led to her integration into the Iraq society.

Persons and events that have influenced her Nursing Practice

The nursing career of Maggie has been influenced by her early childhood experiences. Her mother was diagnosed with terminal illness when she was twelve. She witnessed her mother going through untold suffering, and there was no palliative care, thus, arousing her interest in nursing the ill.
The caregiver who took care of her mother in her sick condition gave her the inspiration to pursue nursing. Her mother battled breast cancer that led to her undergoing of mastectomy. Since then, her passion for caring for the lives of patients that have lost their limbs and other parts of the body in view of saving their lives has been her passion and motivation.

The aforementioned event and personality have led to Maggie cutting her niche as a nurse, serving patients in different geographical regions that experience suffering. Maggie fulfills her passion by painting a smile to the patients in dire suffering and need of nursing care.

Marjorie, there is no need for a reference since none of the information you wrote originated with that source. In addition, we no longer use the 2010 version of the book for this course. The 2014 edition is provided to you as an ebook within the course.
