Design

Nude with Drapery and an Etumba Mask is the work of Pablo Piccaso painted in 1907. The work is composed of a two-dimensional painting of a naked woman dancing with the veils while holding an etumba mask. This painting shows how African women did not fully dress. The painting shows that African women were highly traditional as we see in the painting, a naked woman dancing to a certain song. This painting is of an African culture. Another painting by Il Tintoretto Sussanah and the Elders talks of a young woman by the name Sussanah who while bathing, two elders were secretly hiding in the bush watching her. The approached her and demanded to sleep with her and if she did not then they would accuse her of adultery. The painting is representational. The painting by Il Tintoretto shows the wicked nature of human beings. The paper is a two-dimensional painting that is representational in nature showing how human beings are wicked.

The two arts by Picasso and Il Tintorreto are both paintings. Picasso uses oil to complete his painting, so it is only natural that he used a canvas to paint his picture. Il Tintorreto also uses oil on canvas method to complete his painting. The technique used in both paintings does not show any valuable meaning of the two paintings.

Analysis

The main visual elements in Picasso’s Nude with Drapery and an Etumba Mask are medium and perspective. Beauty, medium and perspective are the main visual elements in Tintoretto’s wok. Picasso and Tintoretto both use canvas and oil to complete their work. Tintoretto’s work is beautiful to the eye. The color and the whole scene of the picture express beauty. Picasso’s painting does not express any form of beauty. It is complex in nature and only arouses curiosity as to how he painted. Both painters use the same perspective by coming up with a painting that is two-dimensional. Both painters use the same techniques thereby do not differ that much in their works. Picasso’s work is very complex as it makes one use imagination to understand what the picture entails.

The principles of design detected in the two works are balance and proportion. A closer look at Picasso’s Nude with Drapery painting shows that the painting takes the asymmetrical balance. Il Tintoretto also uses the informal balance in his painting. The scale and the relative size of the two paintings objects and parts of the two paintings are in proportion to each other. Proportion as a principle of design is evident in the two paintings.

Interpretation

Tintoretto’s painting is about a young woman by the name Sussana married to a man named Joacim. Two elders were peeping at her in secret as she was taking a bath. The elders got the desire to sleep with her and demanded the same t Susanna. Her refusal to sleep with the elders led to them falsely accusing her of adultery. She refused to sleep with the elders and later condemned to death. An angel from heaven intervened and proved her innocence. This led to the death of the elders when it became evident that they falsely accused Sussana. Tintoretto clearly paints the picture. We see the nude picture of Sussana and the heads of the two elders peeping. The work of Picasso paints a nude picture of a woman possibly of African origin dancing to a song. She does this while holding an etumba.

The two works are similar to each other because they are both paintings of a naked woman. The two works by Picasso and Tintoretto are similar because they both outline the shame and hardship the women have had to undergo through time. Over the years, men have viewed women like sexual toys. Tintorreto’s work has clearly shown how men treat women like sexual toys. The two elders demanded to sleep with Sussana and opted to blackmail her so that she could not refuse. The two works only differ in the design in which they were painted. Picasso opts for a complex way to paint the picture whereby his technique creates curiosity to view and the picture more closely.

Evaluation

The two artworks by Pablo Picasso and Il Tintorreto are excellent pieces of art. Not many artists of today can match the talent of which the two painters had. Picasso uses a more complex design than Tintorreto. The painting looks like an assortment of different objects patched together to form one image that makes of a nude woman holding a cloth referred to as an etumba. This is an excellent display of talent on Picasso’s part. Tintorreto’s painting is marvelous. It seems so real making a person viewing it to think it is a photograph. Both painters have a natural talent to art, and it is hard to match that talent. The way Picasso paints the picture is pure ingenuity on his part. Tintorrento’s painting is very clear picturing the human body perfectly upon every curve.
