Who is to Blame?

In accordance to the book, Criminology Today: an Integrative Introduction written by the author Schmalleger argues that the society contributes to incidents of the criminal activities in the society. The society contributes to the general behavior of an individual in establishment of individual character through sharing of the ideas. In most of the criminal occasions, the society plays a major role in instilling discipline in the members. Schmalleger discusses that the exposure members of the society receive from the society contributes to the extent of the criminal activity in the society. The behavior of an individual is the main attribute that contributes to the criminal nature of the individual.

In the ninth and the tenth chapter of the book, the behavior and character of an individual is vital in the criminology. However, the society also influences the character traits of an individual. For this reason, Schmalleger argues out that the society influences the character of an individual compared to the rest of the society. Although other psychologist blames the individual for participating into criminal activities, the status of the society pushes the person into committing crime. Schmalleger in the book offers the instance in which an individual participates in criminal activities because of lack of employment. Most of the young members of the society will indulge into criminal activity because of lack of employment. This implies that the society is to blame for the crime portrayed in the current world.
