Mitigation Strategy for a Household Network
The focus of information security is on three critical areas: confidentiality, integrity, and availability. These concepts apply to different forms of networks thus the inclusion of household network systems. It is essential to keep the information or tasks performed on the household network confidential thus keeping away the intruders who might affects its availability and integrity. It is essential to adopt relevant measures ensuring that the information on the network system remains intact and available whenever need arises. Most of the network security risks occur because of intentional misuse of the computer system by intruders through the application of internet services. Other risks also develop in the absence of the internet such as hard disk failures, theft, and power outages. It is difficult for an individual to plan for every risk to the household network system, but there are essential measures towards the minimization of the risks to the networking concepts.
Risks
The risks in relation to the security of the household network system are divided into two sections: intentional misuse of the computer and accidents or other risks. According to the category of the intentional misuse of the computer system, intruders can adopt and implement several ways in causing harm to my household network system. Some of these avenues for the cause of harm to the household network system include the application of Trojan horse programs or social engineering, installation of backdoor programs, application of denial-of-service attack, and functioning as an intermediary in the execution of another attack. The concept of Trojan horse programs is a risk because most intruders apply this aspect to install backdoor programs thus interfering with confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the information on the household network system. Other risks in the first category include
- Cross-site scripting
- Spoofing of the email messages
- Mobile codes or java script
- Sharing of windows with minimal protection
- Email viruses in relation to the attached messages
- Packet sniffing
- Chat clients
- Inaccessible or hidden file extensions
The second category consists of accidental risks such as disk failure, power surge, and physical theft. These concepts also contribute to the number of risks affecting the effectiveness and efficiency of the household networking system thus the need to manage. This requires adoption and integration of mitigation strategy in the quality management of the risks in relation to the household network system.
Mitigation Strategies
In order to enhance protection of the household networking system, I have put in place several measures hence the ability to enhance confidentiality, availability, and integrity of the information. The first strategy is constant consultation of the system support practitioners with the aim of evaluating vulnerability of the household network system. The second precautious measure is the application of the virus protective software to prevent invasion of the system with viruses and other relevant malware. I also integrate the use of the firewall to minimize the aspect of intrusion. I do not open unknown email attachments with the aim of preventing email viruses. I also do not run unknown programs on the networking system with the aim of eliminating social engineering risks. To enhance the protection of the household networking system, I turn the system off when note using the internet services. In order to prevent the invasion through mobile codes or java scripts, it is essential to disable the java properties from the computer system thus minimization of the risk. Development of backups of the essential and critical data is also vital in the minimization of the risk. It is also crucial to develop a boot disk in case of the damage to the computer system through networking invasion.
