List some issues with static addressing that the company may be experiencing.
The company might be experiencing several issues in relation to the adoption and implementation of the static addressing approach. One of the issues in relation to this approach is the inability by the company to use their web in other places apart from the premises of the organization. This is because of the lack of IP address set within the organization. Movements to other places will force the organization to change the IP address in order to use the networking system. There may be issues of conflicting IP address through external invasion or intrusion. This is because, in this approach, it is easier for hackers to track the IP address through the internet. Another essential issue in relation to the implementation of static addressing is the ability of one computer to occupy the IP address. This occurs even when the computer system is dormant. This adversely affects the networking system through limiting the number of IP addresses available to the company. This will force the company to create numerous IP addresses into the system thus making room for computer devices (Ferguson, 2006).
Explain the advantages of using DHCP (Reegan, 2006).
- Effective and convenient management of the IP address
- Integration of centralized network for consumer or client configuration thus efficiency in making changes through transformation of the data store
- DHCP is also essential in the provision of support to the BOOTP clients. This supplements the support or services to both local and remote clients within the networking system.
- DHCP also offers the opportunity for obtaining information essential for the booting activity from the server of the networking system rather than applying RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol)
- Another advantage of the DHCP is the provision of large network support through the implementation of multithreading in the processing of the requests of the clients simultaneously.
Provide a detailed document illustrating how to set up DHCP for its environment, which you were instrumental in designing and implementing.
- From control panel, access Administrative tools > Computer Management > Services and Application >DHCP
- Selection of the New Scope from the Action Menu (outcome; display of the new scope wizard)
- Entering of the following information (name and description of the scope, IP address range, subnet mask, addition of exclusions, lease duration, router of the subnet, domain name and activation of the scope through selecting the YES button)
- Click finish in order to exit the wizard (outcome; display of the DHCP contents)
- Right-click on the scope button > properties
- Scope Property box > advanced tab
- Selection of BOOTP only for the setting of lease duration to Unlimited then click OK
- Right click reservations to display the Controller A Properties box
- Click Add after entering IP address and the MAC address in the Controller A (outcome; display of controller B box)
- In the controller B, enter IP and MAC addresses then click Add
- Right Click on the scope for the purposes of disabling scope. Click yes to confirm the process
- Right click on the scope > activate
- The DHCP is configured with the BOOTP option for the array network
Illustrate the DHCP installation process. Include a minimum of eight screenshots with detailed explanations.
In the installation of the DHCP, it is essential to follow this steps: Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Networking Services (components list) > Details Button > Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol > OK> Next>Finish. The last step is verifying the installation process.
Provide a tutorial describing use of the various networking tools available in the Windows Server 2008 environment to aid in troubleshooting networking issues.
There are several networking tools available for the troubleshooting of the networking issues. One of the essential tools is the network monitor. This is essential for the identification of the problems slowing down the operations or performance of the network. Another tool is the event viewer. This is effective in the monitoring of the events on the log thus determination of the problems facing the networking system (Ferguson, 2006).
