Acute Conditions (Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)
Eczema is one of the acute conditions that might affect the development and performance of the students due to lack of concentration and intense cases of scratching. In case of diagnosis of the acute condition in relation to Eczema, it is essential for the school authorities to adopt various preventive and management measures towards minimization of the level of suffering experienced by the infected students. One of the bold steps by the organization or authority of the institution is to send the student home for treatment with reference to the administration of effective creaming thus an approach towards management of the case of the acute condition. The parents should be informed adequately on the reasons why the child has been sent home in order to minimize misinterpretation or stigma. The student should stay away from the institution until the condition is alleviated (Penzer & Ersser, 2010).
Other management procedures and methods include
- Keeping the child away from heat sources such as sunny windows and radiators
- Adoption and implementation of cotton uniforms
- Minimization of sporting activities to students experiencing the acute condition
- Avoidance of salt water thus the need for the application of emollient prior to any swimming activity
- Involve infected students in the school activities through development of various options in order to feel included in the programs
- Determine effective food for the condition of the student and inform the parents on the need to stick with the new diet
- Offer valuable counseling to enable the infected students handle opinions or comments from other students thus an opportunity to manage stigma and discrimination effectively and efficiently
- Encourage infected students to interact and share information in relation to their conditions with other students, teachers, and other individuals within the interaction network
