Question 1: Experience Design
How Can we take people’s feelings seriously? Do we need to take people’s feeling seriously?
In the application of the application of the context of experience design, it is essential to consider the feelings of the people. Taking people’s feelings seriously within the experience design is one of the ways towards maximization of the rewards and profits with reference to illustration from Norman. One of the essential ways of taking the feelings of the people seriously in accordance to the demonstration of Norman is changing or transforming the way we address the individuals. In the execution of the concepts of experience design, it is essential for the project to achieve goals and targets in relation to stimulation, entrainment, persuasion, and provision of information to the audience (Norman, 2004).
This makes it critical to take into account the feelings of the people. According to Norman, in the expression of the people as consumers, users, and customers, business entities have the ability to realize negative influence in the implementation of the concept of experience design. This is because, according to Norman, experience entails more perceptions in the form of personal, affective, and subjective procedures requiring adequate attention from the designers. Another reason for taking the feelings of the individuals seriously in the context of experience design is the concept of the fact that the process or interaction in question is relevant to the both parties. This is an indication of the concept of transformative and trans-active process of the experience design. Instead of referring to the individuals merely as customers, users, or consumers, it is effective and efficient to replace such subjectivity with relevant terms. These terms include audience, participants, and people thus the illustration of the more effective and reliable experience design in relation to taking the feelings of the people seriously.
In the experience design, it is also essential for the designers to understand and know their users. This is the most essential or fundamental principle of the experience design with reference to the illustration of Norman (Norman, 2004). Knowing of the users goes beyond the terminology of the user or consumers. This involves understanding their cultural, social, or personal perspectives and feelings in the development of the designs. Effective and efficient experience design relates to the application and quality implementation of the importance of terminology in the designing process. Norman would prefer the use of the term people rather the commonly applicable users in the concept of the experience design. The final impression is the most effective and adequate way of ensuring that the interaction process was fruitful towards the realization of the goals and targets. This is because most of the encounters or interactions contain good and bad elements thus the need to focus on the aspect of the final impression. Experience designers should also incorporate the language of business in enhancing interaction with relevant audiences. This is essential for the maximization of sales and financial resources (Norman, 2004).
Taking people’s feeling seriously will depend on the occasion that an individual finds himself, whether in a relaxed situation or in a hurry. It (taking people’s feeling) involves presenting a human centered design that proves more pleasurable to help in complementing a relaxed situation. However, in leisure time, an individual will always go for the product with the beauty that projects some emotions. How can we take peoples’ feelings seriously? Well, when you are in the marketing business, just about the only thing that is of any importance understands the feelings of your prospective customers. Does Evans realize this? Is she really serious in providing a good experience to the prospects while one is manoeuvering them into buying the product? Please note that you have been on the receiving end of thousands of such attempts to sell to you. How honest are these social media attempts to get you to buy? Did you ever get the feeling that the people who are advertising and promoting care about your own personal feelings at all? Did you ever feel that you were being manipulated? Did you sometimes see yourself as prey, surrounded by salesmen who were like predators?
Taking people’s feeling seriously is important, especially for marketing a business. Since the customers the powerful pillar in the success of any business, it is important to incorporate their feelings rather than considering individual’s (feelings). This is indifferent to Evans, who recommends that an individual should first sell his self before proceeding to selling the product. Evans does not understand that there is need for prioritizing the customers before anything since they are the ones who will buy the products. The customers will only buy the product that meets their need for urgency and pleasure. This means that the marketer should take a step of going of interviewing the customers on their preferred structure of the products. Further, the provision of view on their preferred structure helps in strengthening the loyalty of the customers towards the firm. Consequently, selling oneself before considering the feelings of the customers is not a good experience to help in marketing any product. This concept applies the same to the use of social media, in marketing the product. The social media always have the intent of increasing the attraction of the product to the consumer even if the product does not have attractive features. This people (the social media) are in business and they are doing the advertising more for their own personal benefits. This means that they would do everything to ensure that they have achieved their mission of increasing the attraction of the product to the consumers. They do not care about the personal feelings of the customers in their duty but only consider manipulating the individuals into buying the product. The salesperson always acts as the predator seeking for preys, who are their customers, especially when they make products that do not incorporate the feelings of the customers. Even though, the product may not be meeting the needs of the customers, the salesperson would ensure that they have convinced the former of the capabilities of the product.
