Intercultural relationships involves people who have a different way of life and do not speak the same language. In as much as intercultural relationships proide an opportunity for people to gain knowledge and see interesting cultures different from their own, the problem usually comes in during communication. Seeing as partners may speak a different language and hence rarely understand each other. Thus, for these relationships to thrive, some important aspects should always be considered. This include: patience, respect, clarity, sincerity and acceptance.

Patience must be excercised at all times during communication. As both partners can hardly understand each other, or in the event that one is more fluent in use of a particular language, each one should take time to listen, teach and try understand meaning from each others words. Respect is also a very important factor. It is essential to always listen to your partners view even if you do not agree with their opinion. Also, avoid interruptions when one is trying to put a point accross. Respect is a core factor without which any relationship is bound to fail.

Thoughts and emotions should be expressed clearly. Use of simple terms that your partner can easily understand is also vital. Clarity helps avoid controversy which may arise from misinterpretation. Sincerety is also key in any relationship. Partners should not that the whole idea is not to emerge superior but to bring about understanding, and honesty always gets people halfway there. Finally, accepting ones partner, with all their flaws and cultural differences goes a long way in building intercultural relationships. It is neccesary to acknowledge that everyone is different in their own way and that no one can ever be perfect.
