Companies are now able to share information with their associates as well as clients so as to meet their goals (Almeida, 2012). The Web 2.0 application like wikis, podcast and blogs among others makes it possible for people share information. Social sites like Facebook and Twitter have a large number of following and are daily getting more popular making it a base for companies to use them to advance their business.

Companies are able to acquire a number of advantages form these application in a number of ways. There is a heightened rate of accessing knowledge, reduction of charges that are related to communication, high effectiveness in marketing, client are able to meet their desires, high brand reputation.

With the continued growing use of these applications in companies so as to develop their market base, there has been a new security risk. Business are facing adverse forms of losses in production, they are becoming more susceptible to leakage of information and a characteristic threat in security. Most notable of the threats are data leaks, virus and malware intrusion, data exposure, spam increased and data entry sections. The information policy looks to restrict the use of some of these applications in companies so as to safeguard their interest will limit the interest of the client.

Implications

With the increased security threat that is posed by the use if the web applications, companies are now resulting to a restricted use of these technologies (Almeida, 2012). It has been believed that hindering the use of these social sites would improve the level of security on a company’s data.

Policies are another way that companies are using to manage the threats. The web 2.0 is an integrate part of the management control. Companies may apply rules that hinder the staff from applying the applications; the policies ought to be well communicated, done in consultation and well informative as well as coherent with the present policies. These policies would limit the benefit that clients are used to hence not according them the needed satisfaction.
