Developing Human Potential

Developing Human Potential

Introduction

  1. Motivating the individual through:
  2. Views and concepts of motivation and human potential

Motivation is a Latin word “movere” that means to move. It has the meaning of an internal drive which activates the behaviour and issues directions. There several views and concepts that have been advanced by several scholars about it.

The views or theories developed are varied; the need theory or otherwise content theory looks at the core factors that bring strength and direct human behaviour. Some of these theories are Maslow’s theory of hierarchy of needs and Herzeberg’s motivator-hygiene theory as well as McClelland’s learned needs. The most renowned theory is the Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs. Maslow’s needs are placed into five groups of basic needs, they are; physiological, safety and security, love, self-esteem and self-actualization needs.

Maslow’s theory attempts to bring forth existence, correlation and the growth needs. On the other hand Herzeberg tries to explain some aspects in the work place that accrues to job satisfaction. McClelland’s learned needs otherwise known as the three-needs theory that applies the projective technique known as the Thematic Aptitude Test (TAT) with the desire to analyze persons in relation to power, achievement and affiliation (Richard, 2007). An increased level of need on a person will influence another person’s behaviour.

Process theory creates opportunities to understand thought processes that affect a person’s behaviour. The most noticeable processes theories of motivation are Adam’s equity theory, Vrooms expectancy, goal setting and reinforcement theories. Goal setting theory attempts to explain that people are motivated to attain certain goals it also goes ahead to explain that the goals to be attained should be specific. On the other hand, reinforcement theory is focused on managing the behaviour by controlling its resultant.

The motivation concepts are driven by our own desires. Such concepts like the error of our ways where we do not involve our knowledge and expertise in our daily lives. We are also expected to pay attention to one’s life this will involve planning one’s work. Another concept is that thoughts are things, according to Mohandas K. Ghandi who stated that “a man is a product of his thoughts; what he thinks, that he becomes.” You are able to be what you want to be by just making it happen. Once in possession of the thoughts write them down as this gives you the permanence that is deserved. Put what you have written down to action and putting the best into it.

  1. The Holistic health and wellness orientation

The aspect of being in shape is quite simple; the difficult is getting or acquiring an implementation method that satisfies your lifestyle. There are several programs that relate to health and wellness which are meant to advance or improve a person’s holistic wellness, as well as the provision of personal attention to one’s health and wellness needs, this may involve personal training. Man’s feeling state-emotions

Emotions are our feelings and they tend to affect how we drive our daily lives, this brings forth their importance. In reference to Goleman’s 1995 book, Emotional Intelligence, one is supposed to possess a good presentation on evolution and emotions. Survival is enhanced; it has the ability to alert us in instances where the need of the human has not been met. We can also acquire information that is relevant from our emotions that accrue to making decisions. Our emotions are necessary to determining our own behaviour.

  1. Motivation and encouragement for personal worth

Encouragement is the aspect of issuance of courage, confidence or hope. It has the ability to outstand fear. If a person does an activity that he or she is interested in one will be in a position to advance ones momentum and ease one’s life. In reference to Step three of the Creating your life of EASE chapter, from Activate your Life Book, this makes one to have the feeling of achieving one’s goals. One should not perform activities that make them feel no need to do them. A person should be able to self-acknowledge, self-appreciate, accountable and identifying people who you will have in your ease group.

  1. Personal empowerment for enhancement

In personal growth, the life enhancement aspects that are present have an immense impact on the changing direction of life. It is the development and mobilization of personal capabilities of person’s (Cohein, 2011). This is similar to the development of individual skills through activities focused at life-skills enhancement and personal or individual and social empowerment. It is evident that a person’s knowledge and skills are highly influenced by socio-ecological factors like income, housing, location and social capital. Personal empower should incorporate the transformation of risks into healthier behaviours and their respective sustainment.

Several books and films have been advancement meant to help a person to improve one’s self, cases in instance is the Law of Attraction book written by Robert Zink and Mary Kresky who are well versed with personal empowerment and life enhancement.

  1. Motivating and developing others to:
  2. Develop possibilities in others

People who desire to manage changes in their environment do incorporate the creation of possibilities for other individuals. Its consequence may vary depending on the effort inserted into it (Richard, 2007). When a person is not at his best, he or she should desire to create opportunities to put back into place harmony and connections with other people.

A person should be ready to embrace love and respect in other people. If one is involved in changes in his or her life, this affects changes in the people around you. Some people may not appreciate what you are doing and consequently respond negatively. The greatest gift one is otherwise able to share with others is love.

  1. Communication and encouragement

Communication is way of acquiring knowledge that has an adverse effect on personal development. Communication should embody encouragement. The practical approach to encouragement clearly brings out favourable expectations (YMCASV, 2011). Encouragement incorporates more than just verbal activity; it additionally involves the provision of material resources that are important to motivation.

No individual is immune to discouragement no matter his personality, potential or position in the society. However the response that we give to the negative encouragement is dependent on our future. The influence one possesses is necessary in helping others from suffering from self-discouragement; key among them is good communication (Reynolds & Webber, 2004) (Richard, 2007). For a good communication mechanism to be effective one should consider distance, cost, and diversity of the audience.

  1. Targeting and overcoming discouragements and blocks

In the event of a disagreement persons are able to come together and try and resolve this stalemate. The disagreement is normal contrastingly different in their basis in the sense that, different information is involved (Andrew, 2008). The explanation of one’s basis helps to improve their estimates. In the event of different opinions held by the parties, discussions will help to cancel out the basis of disagreement. Consequently, the parties will be able to use their reasoning and skills to try and improve their relationship.

Persons should be able to advance beyond trivial disagreements and employ strategic steps to solve the stalemate. The parties involved should be willing to lower their status for an amicable solution to be attained.

  1. Motivating and enhancing organizations and social systems through:
  2. change and emotional upheaval

Change is like an event, we all go through changes in all parts of our lives. People should be able to allow changes to take place, this can be through; understanding and the expectation or dramatic emotional effects as a result of life changes.

In the case of an organization, changes would be difficult for them, more so if the change is imposed on them. Persons are always against a change that they do not have control over. So as to cater for any emotional upheaval understanding is necessary and helping one to go through this stage in life as well as having patience with them.

People who are able to understand themselves, whether adults and children, to some extend they may even be similar in a way (Katherine, 2010). As they both go through the aspect of having to handling normal emotional upheavals that is normally accompanied by transition and change.

  1. Improvement through purpose and commitment

One should have a definite purpose in life; the goal is to that the management system is improved. Continual improvement is necessary in an organization. The commitment level in an organization should be open and visible in an organization (Persse, 2006). One should expect from the organizational staff the level of commitment he or she is putting in as the manager.

An organization that is composed of a committed staff will be in apposition to attain its goals successfully, it is hence they commitment that drives the urge to succeed and improve the level of the organization. One should ensure that the management partners share the same management commitment so as to apply similar strategy to achieve one goal. It is the different levels of commitment that makes the organization to possess different levels of improvement or even no improvement at all.

The management team should formulate a good design for the process program which directly fits into the organization; this will therefore lead to falling into place of the activities (Reynolds & Webber, 2004). With a strong commitment from the management team and their commitment to the success of the organization, it then fall into place of the attitude so as to achieve adoption, attenuation as well as integration into several sections.
