Introduction
Cell phones are mobile phones that use wireless means to operate. They are hand held with an antenna that is built in the device. They are easily portable will little disturbance, they are an easy choice for people who desire to be kept in constant contact with other people in their different locations they are.
How they operate
Cell phones operate in much the same way as the walkie-talkies, though much better and more advanced. They are two way form of operation where by two people are able to converse and exchange information. The information that is sent and received from one cell phone to another travels through the air in form of waves, the waves travels to the base station where they are received. The base station is tasked with the duty of contacting the desired person by sending signal which travels through a network until it is received by another base station closest to the person the information is destined for. The base station then sends the radio wave to the region the recipient is located. The radio waves are then picked by the recipient’s cell phone and translated into a voice form.
Cell phones are used for a varied number of reasons; we are able to send text messages called SMS, we are also able to send tweets to our friends, we are also able to access the internet, and we are also able to watch television from the cell phones as well as send emails from our cell phones among others. It therefore becomes quite hard for most people in the business industry to work without their cell phones as they are mostly engaged in traveling to different places.
With most countries using the GSM which stands for Global System for Mobile Communication which is a standard for communication, communication in different parts of the world is now possible. This is only possible if the cell phone operates at the correct frequency it is supposed to be. In each and every phone there is a SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module) which is a chip stored inside the cell phone and is tasked with the function of storing the user’s phone numbers and account.
Impact of the cell phone
The known advantage of the cell phone is its ability to be used anywhere using wireless means that is without using cables. This comes in handy in situations like emergencies. The internet is similarly available as well as cheap calling rates as compared to the landline calling. There are however contrastingly some disadvantages that accrue from it; cell phones are able to send and receive electromagnetic waves which may cause health effects a case in instance is cancer. The electronic appliances used in cars, houses and places of work are affected by the cell phones in addition to causing destruction and resulting to accidents. Cell phones also harbour sites to access pornographic sites which the young ones are prone them.
Conclusion
The cell phone is steadily improving in the modern world in comparison to the past lives. With its advancement to touch phones where one does not have to press buttons but with only a touch of a screen and movement of various icons, the user’s needs are achieved. Another latest advancement of the cell phone is the video conferencing where a person is able to view the other person on the other side and communicate freely. The cell phone is basically able to operate like computers. This and many more are what the cell phone has become and we can also imagine what it will be in the future.
