Our readings and references this semester have dealt with the themes of self-identity and community. Please use IDEAS, IMAGES and QUOTATIONS from Marlon Riggs’ film “Black Is…Black Ain’t” and other readings (“Complexion” by Richard Rodriguez, “Dreams from my Father” by Barack Obama, “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker,) as your citations.
Riggs’ subtitle is ‘A Personal Journey Through Black Identity.” Write an essay titled “A Personal Journey Through My Identity.” In it, describe some experiences that have shaped your identity as a member of your culture. What conflicts over identity and culture have you experienced, and how you have resolved them? What role has your heritage played? Like Riggs, you might end with a statement of what you hope your legacy will be.
