Thesis: a strong, logical, well-articulated thesis stated in the introductory paragraph. The thesis statement reflects a superior grasp of the material, and outstanding judgement skills. All information presented in the essay relates to the central thesis.
Critical analysis: the essay is analytical rather than descriptive, and reflects original, independent, and creative thought. The argument is well-supported, and grapples with complex issues and (perhaps) alternative interpretations.
Use of evidence: all points in the essay are supported by evidence. The evidence selected is appropriate and convincing.
Organization: the essay is very well-organized. It has a clear introduction and conclusion, and all supporting points connect together in a smooth and well-ordered fashion.
Writing style: the paper is superbly written, with no grammatical or spelling errors. The paper draws the reader in, and is interesting and compelling to read. Quotations are nicely integrated within the body of the paper (and the paper does not rely too heavily on long block quotations). The paper embodies excellent sentence structure, and does not rely on the passive voice.
