Topic

Closing of Blockbuster Chain Stores.

This is a very good topic relating to organizational behavior because of the complexity of the ownerships views and direction it took the company. Owner David Cook saw an opportunity to make some quick money and capitalized on it. There was not much foresight as to the direction and future of what this quickly growing company would be. Utilizing Minztbergss Managerial Roles from our text we can make several assumptions as to the rise and fall of Blockbuster. The different types of management, how those roles intertwine and ultimately how leadership commands the success or demise of a company, group, or organization.

Questions

1) How did the owners final decisions facilitate in the loss of connection with its customers?

2) How did the centralized organizational structure impact its employees and their work environment?

3) How was the centralized management structure not efficient in strategic and long term management?

4) How did a societal shift force the companys hand in making (or not making) drastic changes?
