Social Media Peer Communication and Impacts on Purchase Intentions: A Consumer Socialization Framework

Dear writer,

Please read my description about dissertation proposal carefully
because
1. I try to explain all of my supervisor’s requirements
2. I try to write all of my idea about my dissertation includes the direction, method.
Due to recommendation from my supervisor, he would like me to follow the key research paper that match with my idea and I will follow that paper for my dissertation.

My idea is about impact of peer review, peer community such as social media and social networking (Facebook, YouTube, Beauty Community website and Beauty blogger) on Consumers ( purchase intention) in Cosmetic Products(makeup and skincare).

*** Hence, my key paper is
Wang, X., Yu, C. and Wei, Y. (2012) ‘Social Media Peer Communication and Impacts on Purchase Intentions: A Consumer Socialization Framework, Journal of interactive marketing, 26(4), pp. 198-208. ***

In Limitation and Future research part, authors ask future research to do 4 things;

First, the social websites included in our sample were Chinese, which enabled us to study a linguistically homogenous sample. These respondents likely differ from consumers with other cultural backgrounds, especially Western consumers. For example, Singh, Zhao, and Hu (2005) find that local websites in India, China, Japan, and the United States differ significantly in their cultural dimensions. Therefore, additional research should test our proposed model in other cultural contexts.
>>>I will do research in Thailand.

Second, we focused on positive impacts of peer communication on product attitudes. Yet in many cases, peer communication yields negative product reviews or feedback. Previous research has indicated that even a small amount of negative information from a few postings can have substantial impacts on consumer attitudes (Schlosser 2005). Further research should investigate this impact on consumer attitudes, as well as how to minimize or mitigate undesired effects.
>>>I will investigate from beauty community website, where consumers and beauty bloggers exchange their opinion, experience, satisfying or dissatisfying about cosmetic product includes makeup and skincare.

Third, the participants were not asked to specify a product category, but consumer interest in peer communication may vary with product categories. Thus, we call for research that integrates the product/service category into the model tests. >>>I will focus in cosmetic products category.

Fourth, our study did not include other potentially influential variables, such as trust, empathy, or website credibility. Researchers should explore the roles of those variables in terms of creating and sustaining interest in peer communication, to help identify more moderators that have significant impacts on peer communication outcomes.

I found several journals that related to my idea and quite new (2013-2015) but I do not know that they could or could not be use in background and literature review part of dissertation proposal and most of them are not marketing journal in ABS list. ( I typed all of journals that I have found below this message. If you think that can be use, you can use it)

*****The Detailed Research proposal must include the following sections:

The Detailed Research Proposal must be no longer than 2500 words excluding the project plan and the references. You should be proactive in the development of your Research Proposal and the role of the supervisor is to help you shape YOUR ideas.

a. The research background and literature review:
You will illustrate the problem which your research will be addressing, explain its academic and industrial context, demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of past and current work in the subject area by synthesising academic journal papers of relevance to your work.

b. The project aim and objectives:
define the overall aim of the project and the specific measurable objectives that you plan to achieve. You should phrase your objectives in a way that once achieved they will demonstrate the successful achievement of the overall project’s aim.
(This is incomplete aim that I wrote by myself ;
The aim of the research is to test A Social Media Peer Communication and Impacts on Purchase Intentions model that the previous work used in different context, which is Thailand, to identify the impact of peer review on consumers attitude in cosmetic product and explore the role of trust, empathy and website credibility)

c. The research methodological approach:
this should include some information on the general methodological approach you intend to adopt for your study, the accessibility of the data you intend to collect and the techniques you intend to use for data collection an data analysis.
(This is my idea about research method; Quantitative research method by using questionnaire to collect data. The sample are consumers who use social website to exchange their peer review about cosmetic products in both positive and negative.
But you can change it due to the appreciated method)

d. Programme of work:
Describe the tasks you need to conduct in order to complete the project, identify the major milestones by which you and your supervisor will monitor the progress of your project (e.g. completion of literature review, completion of data collection).
The programme of work should be illustrated by a simple diagrammatic work plan showing the major tasks and milestones against a timeline. The work plan is not included in the words limit of the detailed research proposal and represents a one-page ‘appendix’to this report.
(Dissertation) submit in September 2015. Then, all process must be done before 5 September 2015.
e. At least 20 academic references relevant to your research proposal using the Harvard style.
(20 academic references of which at least Four for the methodological approach you intend to use).
