Creativity is a foundation for both entrepreneurship and innovation. To assist you to understand the way that creativity
works within these areas you, the student, are encouraged to keep a creativity journal.
The purpose of this journal is to encourage regular reflection on the concepts presented and discussed in the lectures and
the accompanying text book.
The journal provides you with an opportunity to critically evaluate situations and how you generated creative solutions to
problems. The journal involves semi-structured written assignment involving a series of self-assessment activities. Each
journal entry will appear as key points through-out the subject and text.
Format
Below is the expected format that the completed journal should follow:
You should prepare a series of brief (2 page) journal entries for each task set.
Each journal entry set (6 sets in all) should commence on new separate facing page.
A break of one complete clean leaf (front and back of page) should separate each Journal set entry.
Each Journal Entry Set should be clearly titled.
Each Journal task within the entry set, should have a clear heading and should have 3 lines separating the preceding task
from next.
Journal can be hand written or typed, but should be in a clear neat and easily legible format. If hand written, writing is to
be print not cursive (running). If typed, font is to be Ariel 11 or Times 12 and should be consistent through-out the
journal.
Each paragraph should have one line spacing between them.
A left hand margin of 3cm and a right hand margin of 2 cm for all pages.
Any diagrams, pictures, sketches, graphs etc, should be bordered, titled and at least 25% of the page. (preferred is 50% of
page).
The journal:
If hand written, is to be done in an A4 size exercise book.
If typed, A4 pages are to be attached in an appropriate folder or binding with no plastic sleeves. (The pages can be double
side or single side printed, what ever chosen must remain consistent for entire journal).
The first inside page shall have:
o Course Name & Subject Code,
o Campus,
o Semester,
o Date handed in.
At the top centre of Sheet in at least 14 font.
o “CREATIVE JOURNAL” in bold 16 font
o Student name and JC number underneath title.
At Centre in centre of page
o Lecturer’s and/or Tutor’s name
At the base of the page in 12 font.
Referencing
The journal is individual work and should be own writing, any quotes, citations or pieces from articles, etc., should be
applicably referenced as per APA referencing style as given in the “Endeavour Guide”.
Marking
Journal’s total worth is 40% of the overall grade for this subject.
This score is broken down so that the Sixth journal entry is worth 10% and the other five sets are worth 6% each.
1% of each of the Journal sets is for presentation for that entry set,
the remaining 9% for the final,(sixth), and the remaining 5% for the other 5 entries, is on that entry set’s content and its
relation to the subject material.
Marks appropriated by completed Journal Entry Sets:
40% maximum possible awarded if the final entry plus all other 5 entry sets are completed
30% maximum possible awarded if the final entry plus any 4 other entry sets are completed
20% maximum possible awarded if the final entry plus any 3 other entry sets are completed
0% awarded if less than three journal entry sets are completed.
Due Date:
The journal is to be completed and handed to the lecturer in class in week 10.
Creative Journal Entry Sets (40%)
First Journal Entry Set (Session 1 & 2 Materials) (5%)
Tasks:
1. How do you stack up against the five dimensions (e.g. achievement drive, creativity, desire for autonomy and internal
locus of control)
place your GET 2 survey questionnaire results as an Appendix to the journal.
2. What do you need to develop or improve?
3. What is the organisation you work for (or have worked for) doing to attract and keep entrepreneurial talent?
4. How would you describe and evaluate the influence your working environment has had upon your entrepreneurial orientation?
Second Journal Entry Set (Session 5 & 6 Materials) (5%)
Tasks:
1. Describe an innovation that has had a profound influence on your life/ work/ the way you live. What type of innovation was
it and how has it changed your life?
2. How did you become aware of the innovation?
3. What type of adopter were/are you (innovator, lead user, early adopter, etc..)?
4. Describe the innovation decision process that you went through up until the innovation became a ‘routine’ part of your
life?
5. Identify key actors within your innovation decision network and how their influence affected your behaviour.
Third Journal Entry Set (Session 7 & 9 materials) (5%)
Tasks:
1. How do you feel about the entrepreneurial process? Would you be more entrepreneurial or intrapreneurial in the future?
2. Would you now think about starting a venture (or have you started a venture)? Describe what venture you would like to or
have started? If intrapreneurial, what venture inside the business you work for would you suggest?
3. What kinds of issues might you encounter in starting the venture? What fund-raising process would you use? What resources
would you need?
4. How important is implementation versus planning?
5. Are there any specific issues – benefits or problems – that may arise from your location?
Forth Journal Entry Set (Session 10, 11 & 12 Materials) (5%)
Tasks:
1. Find and cite your own (i.e. unique to your knowledge) example of a recent (i.e. last 3 months) article that has not been
featured in this subject or the text either by lecturer, tutor, student or by the author of the text, in a respected business
newspaper or journal, such as; the Australian, financial review, Business review weekly, The Economist, Business Week, Times,
Harvard Business Review, or similar journal that features either:
a. A disruptive technology or service; or
b. The value of intellectual property (IP) and its protection; or
c. Team building and leadership within entrepreneurial firms.
2. Discuss the article’s contents and why you chose it – with reference both to what has been covered in this unit and your
personal/work experiences.
Fifth Journal Entry Set (Simulation) (10%)
Tasks:
1. Students are required to present a succinct overview & critique of their business activities over the simulation year,
using the reporting periods (Start-up (week 1), week 12, week 26, week 52) and the reports segments to explain the businesses
position, the decisions, strategies and changes taken and the worth of the business at end simulation week 52.
2. Supply the 4 reporting periods in a table format giving total revenue, profit, market share, customer satisfaction and
employee satisfaction. Give relevant ratios showing growth, solvency and profitability of your business. You may provide
other ratios that you feel are pertinent to explain your businesses competency and worth.
3. Students are required to state what areas they had the most difficulty and the areas which were the easiest. Students need
to express what they tried and why, what were their expectations from these changes and the results of the changes. What were
the most sensitive areas of the business to change. In summation they should state what they would do differently if given
the opportunity to re-do the simulation.
The report is a self-critique of their performance progressing through the simulated year to the final report result. The
report is short; approximately 2 pages plus table, this allows for only pertinent highlights and the most critical decisions
and activities.
The report should conclude with what they believe is the most important lesson(s) learnt in the simulation. Students will
need to introduce the business, its type, location, product/services, customers as well as financial performance.
When critiquing/ personal review of; actions, decisions, results, relevance should be given to subject material where
possible, tying in your review with lessons learnt with reference to the subject – notes, articles, powerpoints and text.
Sixth Journal Entry Set (Reflective Overview) (10%)
Tasks:
1. What have you learnt during the reading of the text and delivery of the subject, both about yourself and the nature of
entrepreneurship and innovation? What did you personally gain from the subject, discuss?
2. Have any changes occurred since Session 1 day 1, in terms of your own perceptions of whether you might seek to be more
entrepreneurial or innovative?
(Both 1 & 2 Must include cites and references from text and subject material to provide evidence of link with subject)
