Gender in communication
Introduction
While gender represents the psychological, social and interactive traits of an individual, communication refers to the means by which ideas and information are spread from one individual to another. Consequently, gender in communication refers to the spreading of ideas in the contexts of the three traits (psychological, social and interactive). I agree that communication is important for the interaction existing between the various genders whether it is between man to a man or man to a woman. Further, this always constitutes the interactions between bosses and their workers in the workplace. I suppose that the interaction occurring between individuals will have effect on the passing of ideas between any two parties. Diversity in interaction should be look into without the assumption of uniformity as the only factor to acquiring effective communication. For the analysis of the defining characteristics in gender communication, I will relate the essay to conflicts and resolution of conflicts both in the workplace and outside of the workplace.
The issue of gender in communication acts as a big issue in most of the institution especially in the workplace. This arises because it has an impact on the production of the workers bringing the need for the deep analysis. Gender is a vital concept in the workplace since it has a high impact on the individual’s performance. Moreover, communication occurring between the genders will even have more implications on the productivity. The major defining characteristic of this concept in the workplace is both parties should be able to communicate to each other in an understandable language. The differences existing between the genders can cause a hiccup in the way ideas spread between the genders. The differences existing between man and another man or to another woman always reduces the magnitude at which the two parties understand each other. The existing gender differences makes the parties to reduce their level of inclination to whatever the communication might constitute thereby causing a mayhem in the workplace.
Generally, the communication style of women is more emotional than men are. Women focus on feelings and building relationships while men focus on power, and status. this usually occurs in problem solving situation whereby men always stick to their principle in order to achieve a solution, while women will always seek for intimacy. Further, women also seek for cooperation in order to achieve a solution to any problem in the workplace. Men have a higher magnitude of task behaviors when providing direction or direct disagreement as compared to women. Men always take problem solving as a way to show their competence thereby they will always stick to the principles of the working place without the consideration of empathy or sympathy.
Conclusion
I support the thematic statement diversity in interaction should be look into without the assumption of uniformity as the only factor to acquiring effective communication. Communication serves as a vital element when there is a need to levitate the productivity of the workers. However, gender differences will always precede the way in which the workers communicate to each other. Consequently, I agree with the reasoning that the owners of business should always look into the gender issues before embarking on the operations. This will ensure that there is no diversity between the existing genders with subsequent smoothening of communication. Further the settling of the diversity between the genders will also ensure that there is increased understanding between them hence increasing the workplace productivity.
