Furthermore, with the patient being on a false faith, the focus of the prayer would mainly focus on themselves instead of different people. With all these, the patient would be in his own world in that; he would be confused and illusion most of the times.

On the context, liveliness and joy and liveliness are the most interchanges with a trough of weariness. Because of this, the trough of weariness is usually used by the devil for individuals to lose religion enthusiasm as well as for sexual temptation. In that case, a patient should not be given the opportunity to know himself. I also have a series of peaks and troughs with reference to my work interest and affection for my friends.

In the context, pleasure was God’s invention. Moderation is an important aspect for tempters. This is because it does not allow the devil any opportunity to interfere with a person’s life.

The new friends of Patient are a sign of good things. This is because they will not affect him. The pleasing aspect about leading a double life is that, an outside person from will seem spiritual while in the real sense, they will be secretly sinning.

Screwtape views death as a gate pass to another life. He says human being survival gives us people the chance to protect and fight for their souls. All these are done with an aim of completing tasks on the face of the earth. On the other hand, human beings always wish to extend their lives with an aim of avoiding death inescapable presence. They often think that they are in charge of their death, and they decide the time they wish to die.

The devil is a destroyer. He tempts and destroys people. Prayers and faith can make an individual overcome the devil. Wormwood needs to comprehend that the patient’s new humility has nothing to do with a person’s low esteem regarding talents. Contrary, it has to do with a person’s effective thanks giving attribution for God given talent. The thanks giving should be directed to God, as he is the only provider for those gifts. Therefore, Wormwood should encourage the patient to use the new humility with no any obstacle from a false acknowledgement of humility to serve others fully.

As a reminder, here are some probing questions to guide your response: What new thoughts or perspectives have come to you? What positions have you been forced to defend, if any? What attitudes do you have now compared to what you had before you studied this course content and learned this information? How can you apply some things you learned to your life, work and ministry?
1. Type your response in the text box below:
There are various points that are evident from the screwtape letters. Screwtape is trying to suppress the common people from their own understanding about Faith and believe. My understanding from the context is that; there are different people around the world who may try to influence your faith and believe in your believer. The best way to handle such situations is to assume them and stick by your faith. The screwtape letters focuses on making personalities stay and living in primitive conditions and emotions.
I have learnt that Christianity is an important aspect hence Christians should stick by their faith and not derailed. In conclusion, I learn that, some people may act like animals hence becoming creature who have no definite need to think or act as a human. In this case, self-knowledge comes in as an important reason why human beings should be on their primitive levels. Human beings are supposed to stop evolving and leave without emotions. This will help human beings be able to understand the dos and don’ts of life. We as the human beings will also be able to know how to deal with such life situations.

1. How does God (the Enemy) use troughs in the Patient’s life? Relate that to your own life.
Human beings regard devils as liars and a God’s enemy hence they can influence a patient’s life. In my own lifestyle, I have experienced many life situations that coincide with God’s enemy and various temptations.
2. Whose invention was pleasure? Why is moderation in the Patient a desirable thing for tempters?
God’s invention was pleasure. Moderation is the thing of a paramount importance as there is no way for the devils to tempter with a human being’s life.
3. Why are the Patient’s new friends a good thing? What is desirable about leading two parallel lives?
The patient’s new friends are a good thing because they will highly influence him. The two desirable things concerning the leading parallel lives are the personality from the one side looks holy, though in the reality he or she lives committing sins.
4. What are the different causes of laughter? Which is most helpful to devils?
In the context, there are various causes of laughter. Some of the common causes of laughter include fun, flippancy, joy and jokes. The vulgar jokes are more helpful to devils. In most cases, the vulgar jokes make somebody crazy about sex hence this is to the advantage of the devil.
5. Why does Screwtape say, “The safest road to Hell is a gradual one”? Have you seen that to be true in
Regarding the safest road to hell, Screwtape says it is a gradual one because it is free from slopes, no sudden turnings, no milestones, soft underfoot and no signposts. He says this regarding people who make their patients not creative to sins shown as miserable, it will spark her or him go away from Gods commitment.
6. How does Screwtape view death? How does this differ from our human perception of death?
Screwtape thoughts on death are that, death is nothing important but just a common passage into the next life. He says that human survival gives them the chance to fight and protect their souls. This is a complete different thought from human beings perception of death. Human beings feel that death is a bad and horrible thing to happen to anyone. They feel death is a torture hence giving people a hard time especially losing a close family member.
7. What is your view of the devil? Do you believe the situation that Lewis conceives as the basis for
The devil is not a good thing to be associated with. Generally, it makes people to live in fear. It deceives many people and tests people faith in Christianity. I do believe in the situation regarding Lewis as the basis of all that is happening. There are two reasons Lewis gives for the need to preach about human wickedness, namely the wish to always stay in humanity condition and in such a way, people would know how they act, right or not.
8. What is Lewis’s view of man in The Screwtape Letters? What does he see as Christ’s (the Enemy’s) go
Lewis views Screwtape Letters were written to show people how they are easily tempted by the devil that is hidden in somebody’s face, animal or other creature. There can be perfectly seen the things people have a habit to do, do not paying any attention on the consequences, and in the result, they receive misfortune, nothing else.
9. Why should Wormwood get the Patient to “abandon the people or food or books” he really likes in favo…
The Wormwood should get the patient to “desert the people or food or books” he really likes because the thing that show personalities to other people in the holy travelling is the discontent and illness with people’s prayers. Lewis recommends the patient to pay more attention to the good food, essential books and ideal people.
10. What should Wormwood do regarding the Patient’s new humility? Why? What does the Enemy want to res…
Wormwood should understand that new humility of the patient has nothing to do with a person low respect, namely talking about talents. On the other side, it has a lot to do with thanksgiving attribution for the talents given by God.
11. What in time does the Enemy (God) want humans to attend to? Why? How have you seen your inability
God does not limit humans to attend to anything. The ultimate choice that God has given man by given him freedom is that a person can do whatever he wants and whenever he wants.

He defines need love as the kind of love that triggers a human to plan, work and care for his or her family while gift love is the kind of child to mother love, which sends a child who is lonely or frightened to his mother`s arms. Lewis defends need love as real love since it driven from within the person. It is not selfish.

He defines nearness to God as likeness to God and propinquity to Him.
3. Define Need-pleasure and Appreciative-pleasure.
Need pleasure is the pleasure that results from need to have something, need pleasure which would never be prolonged than the need. Appreciation pleasure is the pleasure, which results from desire and giving thanks.
4. Relate Lewis’s statement that “love may assume the place of a god and thus become a demon”
This is because when one truly loves all he or she thinks of is love. That person`s loyalty to God becomes divided because all that becomes important to them, is love. This shows love-assuming place of God in human life hence it becomes demonic.

11. How does Charity relate to the other three forms of love?
Charity is defined as love that is divine in itself. The three other forms of love are, human, earthly, and natural love. The relation between charity love and this other form of love is that they are all originating from charity love.

During this learning experience, the true meaning and clear understanding of love has been brought to light clearing my doubts about the true meaning of love and its characteristics. The study has made me change my views on love, suffering and physical pain. It has encouraged me to view things on the positive side of the events. Many lessons learnt can be applied in real life situation for example, when undergoing pain one should examine them to what and where they have offended God. This calls for behavioral change and self-examination from time to time. The study is so effective and it left a positive impact on how I generally view life and everything that takes place in it.

He does not like the idea of hell and is assured God too does not like it. He concludes that hell is an inescapable byproduct of free will for instance he states that given the chance some people will still refuse God’s will, “I believe that if a million chances were likely to do good, they would be given. But a master often knows… that it is really useless to send a boy for a certain examination again. 2. How does Lewis believe physical pain entered the animal world?
Physical pain entered the world because of man’s refusal to obey and follow God’s will. He says, Once we understand just how wicked we are, we can examine natural evil – for instance, evil not caused by human agency, aka pain. Because we are fallen, “good” consists of learning to deny ourselves. “We are not merely imperfect creatures who must be improved: we are… rebels who must lay down our arms” (page 88).
3. What does Lewis speculate is God’s most outstanding gift?
He speculates that God gave human beings the gift of pain. This gift is to draw people closer to Him in seeking redemption from him.
