1. Describe the situation for women in the country (background/history). Identify all types of gender violence (i.e. intimate partner violence, trafficking, honor killing) in your
research. You may choose to focus on one type of violence for the rest of the paper.
Describe the prevalence and history of the forms of violence (10 points).
2. What factors are perpetuating the violence cultural, economic, legal or political,
Describe cultural issues, (i.e. how are women socialized, the role of men) employment or economic analysis for women, legal changes, issues, how are women represented in
government. Describe the institutional/structural factors that condone the violence (40points).
3. What is the country’s current status with CEDAW? What has been done or is attempting to be done to stop violence against women? Name the types of interventions (advocacy, changes in laws, etc. Describe the interventions. Describe how men and women are working on the issue. Describe what primary framework the country or NGOs are working from (human rights, development, public health) (30 points).
4. Describe one program (usually NGOs) the country that helps women experiencing
violence- what are they doing, how are they doing it? Are they working from a human
rights, development or public health perspective? Are they addressing the violence at an
individual, community or societal level (10 points).
5. What prevention activities have been or are being planned to address violence against
women? What framework are they working in? What is your assessment of the status of
women in this country at this time? How did your country participate in INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY (10 points).
