Retirement homes and group homes can be beneficial such that the individual will have 24/7 care, immediate health care, medication reminders, learning/social opportunities, a structured schedule, and community involvement. However, they may also be subject to depression, neglect, abuse (physical/verbal), rape (special needs homes), lack of independence, lack of visitors/ abandonment, spread of disease such as MRSA, and cleanliness issues. Quality of care is compared to cost, so the majority are subjected to lower homes with not enough staff or not great quality. Increase in health issues and mental disorders. The death rates increase after entry because the person gives up on life. Basically it’s an argumentative research paper and my side is that they are more harmful than beneficial.
