Paper No. 1: Martin Luther & Two of His Key Writings

In this paper discuss the following two key writings: Luther’s Address to the German Nobility and his 95 Theses. The primary focus of the paper should be the context and content of these two writings. Be sure to discuss how each of these writings contributed to the Protestant Reformation. Use of the primary sources (the actual writings) is expected. Here is a sampling of some of the questions you might address in your paper:

(1) Why were these writings written?

(2) What was the composition of the targeted audience?

(3) What did Luther hope to achieve with these writings?

(4) What were the consequences of these writings?

Papers: Each paper must not exceed 6 pages in length, must be typed using 12-point font, double spaced and include 1” margins. Each paper should include a title page and a works cited page. These two pages will not count as part of the six page limit. Papers exceeding the page limit will receive a 10% grade reduction. Direct quotes may be used if properly attributed. Please use Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) or MLA citation style. Papers must be submitted to the Drop box. Late papers must be submitted to the “Late Drop” Drop box and a one-time 20% penalty will apply. Do not e-mail papers to me. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and each paper will be submitted to Turitin.com to assess its originality.
