– The student will demonstrate an understanding of guiding principles in the administration of the physical resources of the church.
Instructions for the Research Paper
Each student will write a Research Paper on one of the assigned church administration topics.
– The research will take the student beyond the course texts, will represent current thought, and will demonstrate an understanding of the subject.
– The Research Paper should include contrasting views of multiple authors and/or give multiple authors opinions on each sub-heading of your paper. The paper will be evaluated based on the grading rubric found under the tab, Course Material prior to Session 4.
– The body of the Research Paper will have a page count of 9-11 pages.
– The body of the Research Paper will include a brief introduction to state intentions and direction of the Research Paper and a brief conclusion for your own summation of the research. These are the only two parts of the body of the Research Paper where documentation (foot/end/parenthetical notes/citations) is not required.
– The body of the paper should be documented research, not your opinion.
– Use at least eight (8) sources in addition to your texts. Encyclopedias, dictionaries, the Bible, and other reference type works, may be used but will not count as part of the eight sources. No more than half of the sources should bear a copyright earlier than 2001 except Rick Warren’ s book The Purpose Driven Church.
– Included in the Research Paper are the following: Title Page, Table of Contents, and Works Cited (Bibliography), though required, are not a part of the 9-11 page (content) count.
– ALL pages of the Research Paper should be in MLA format which is explained by the professor’s presentation: Preparing for the Research Paper and Presentation for MACE 6307
– MLA format will be required for all citations. A correctly formatted citation includes: a signal phrase, a quote, a reference citation and a Work Cited entry. For specific instructions and clarity of the MLA format for citations review the professor’s PowerPoint: Preparing for the Research Paper and Presentation for MACE 6307.
– Proof your work, poor grammar, spelling, and form will impact your grade. The Research Paper is a formal document. It should not have word contractions and should be written in the third person.
Texts and Readings; Three texts are required for the course:
– Church Administration Handbook, Bruce Powers, Editor, B & H Publishing Group, 2008. The nature of this text is that of a handbook providing resources for the administrator. The readings will usually be taken from several parts of the text rather than an intact chapter (Chapter 6 & 9, page 71-72).
– Church Administration: Creating Efficiency for Effective Ministry, Robert H. Welch, Broadman& Holman Publishers, 2005. The readings will usually be taken from several parts of the text rather than an intact chapter (Chapter 7 & 8, page 366-373).
– The Purpose Driven Church, Rick Warren, Zondervan Publishing House, 1995. Reading will be required from specific sections of the book.
