Sleep and Dream Analysis
For one week you will be conducting a study on yourself and your dreams. Create a “Sleep Diary” to track
your sleeping hours and dreams each night for seven nights. You should use the attached Dream Journal
document for clarity and thoroughness.
Next, use the “Dream Questionnaire” (see attached documents in assignment folder) to determine the types of
dreams you have most frequently. Compare the questionnaire to the results of your dream journal.
For your paper, write a summary of your data collection evaluating your dreams. Select one dream and
provide an in-depth, thorough analysis of your dreams using the following:
1. Psychoanalytic perspective (Freud). Use your content from prior PSYC G100 courses, or online
content.
a. You can also try: http://www.psywww.com/books/interp/toc.htm
2. One additional perspective from the textbook
a. Activation-synthesis model (Chapter 8.3a)
b. Clinico-Anatomica Hypothesis (Chapter 8.3b)
c. Any other published dream book, reliable website, or outside source.
Decide which perspective is most valid for analyzing your dreams and defend your answers. Include
perceptions about your dream, common themes/emotions, anything else you have discovered about your
dreams, why we dreams, and dreams in general. Also include the number of hours you sleep each night and
compare that to what is recommended in the text. Discuss what impact your sleep patterns have on your
waking behavior. Relate this to your biological clock / circadian rhythms, sleep disorders, and memory
