you can choose one topic from follows: Cultural appropriation of Native American art and/or sacred symbols by non-Natives, the endless Mascot issue (where sports teams are named for Native peoples, using derogatory terms), Native American and First Nation protests against fracking and other activities that are harmful to territory.
In the past someone have also explored the non-linear use of time in Native writings, issues regarding women’s power within Native societies, the survival of oral tradition and how Native writers attempt to preserve it, etc… Some students have written papers about conflicts between Christianity and Native culture as played out in one or more of the novels we have read. Some have written about the emphasis on ancestors found in many Native novels and go on to explore stories from their own line of ancestors. The papers can also examine significant moments in Native American history (pertaining to indigenous peoples). I offer a lot of latitude here because I really want you to find something that interests you.

You are free to write a Research Analysis Paper on a topic of your interest that connects with subject matter raised in class texts and/or class discussions.
