Learning Objectives:
1. Increase awareness of differences in domestic violence research.
2. Demonstrate ability to critically evaluate information regarding family violence.
3. Improve ability to conduct literature searches for scholarly, peer-reviewed articles regarding the prevalence of family violence.
Overview:
You will be researching and summarizing the 7 models of family violence. These 7 basic theoretical models focus on reasons why parents and children act violently toward each other:
• Psychiatric model
• Ecological model
• Sociological model
• Social psychological model
• Patriarchy model
• Exchange/social control model
• Information-processing approach
Instructions:
1. From the list of 7 models of family violence, you will describe 2 of the models that you think best describes why violence occurs in families. You will need to defend your answers with research-based evidence.
2. From the list of 7 models of family violence, you will describe 2 of the models that you think that do NOT describe why violence occurs in families. You will need to defend your answers with research-based evidence.
3. You will then compare and contrast the 4 models with scholarly articles/research to justify your answers.
4. You will need to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each of the 4 models.
5. You will be expected to use proper APA in your paper and reference page.
Final Notes:
This term paper must be 4 pages long (it is fine to go over 4 pages).
You must include at least 4 research findings that support your viewpoints (you cannot simply just state your opinions). One of the 4 sources can be your textbook, but the other 3 sources will need to be from outside academic journals or human development related material.
Be sure to cite any sources using APA format. Be sure you are using your own words! Avoid the over use of direct quotes. Be sure to include proper hanging indents in your reference page
Papers must be typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, and submitted through the Assignments tool on the left of the screen.
