WRITING A CHARACTER ANALYSIS
• Is the character flat or round?
• Is the character static or dynamic?
• Does the character play a major and minor role in the story? If writing on a minor character, why is he or she important to the story?
• List at least three character traits per character, and reflect on which are the most important in relation to the plot. Support your analysis with examples.
• What motivates the character to do what he or she does?
• How do you learn about the character: through what the character says; through what the other characters say about him or her; through what the narrator says or implies; through actions; and/or through the background information that the narrator supplies?
• Write about the relationship between the characters, especially if the relationship is important to the story.
• Note: Always provide examples to support your analysis.
