Explain Michael Sandel’s communitarian criticisms that liberalism presupposes a false conception of the “unencumbered self”. Are his criticisms justified?

I want to agree with Sandel (to a certain extent). I think the criticisms are justified but they do not necessarily undermine liberalism itself, and perhaps it would be best if the two were reconciled. ‘

I’ll upload my references for you. Some are just there if you need, others you will need to use. Kymlicka has a good summary of the topic, but I don’t want to refer to him too much as we use that book in class. I of course want to refer to Sandel mainly, I’ll upload some of his ‘Liberalism and the limits of justice’, if you could please use that and his other book ‘Democracy’s Discontents’. Let me know if you can’t get a hold of it.
