Principle readings: United Nations Security Council resolutions 1267(1999) and 2161(2014) and excerpts from Chesterman, Franck, Malone: Chapter 2, Hard Cases (pages 52-63) and Chapter 10, Sanctions (pages 342 up to section 10.3 on page 348)
Papers should be typed in size 12 font, double spaced. The focus of the course is on \”Law and Practice of the United Nations\”. I would like the research to tackle the below questions: – How are UN sanctions employed presently and in what contexts? – What fair process challenges arise in the context of targeted sanctions and what steps have been taken to address the same? – Scenarios of lifting sanctions on Iran and its future impact on the stability and security of the region.
