Based on Daniel Woodrell’s novel, the 2010 film, Winter’s Bone, directed by Debra Granik is a tough, realistic depiction of modern life in the Ozarks. Yet, as good as this film is, it does not give the audience as complete and deep an understanding of its characters as the novel does. In the novel, the reader gets a fuller understanding and history of the characters than the film allows. In a paper, choose three scenes from the film and explain using quotes from the same scenes in the book what the film has left out of our understanding of that scene and our understanding of the characters, of course. You should end this paper by describing or explaining how your understanding and feelings are changed or deepened by the novel.
