Best Practices for Informatics

Nurses are expected to provide safe, competent, and compassionate care in a highly technical and digital environment. They are directly engaged with electronic health records and other information technologies that support evidence-based practice. Future nurses must develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to perform within this environment, at a time when many practicing nurses are also learning about informatics. Address the following questions regarding informatics and best practices:
1) Describe how innovations in health information technology are being used in your practice environment to better inform clinical practice, interconnect clinicians, personalize care, and/or improve population health. (If informatics are not yet well integrated in your workplace, explain how you expect them to be integrated in the near future.) My Practice environment is a state hospital setting.
2) How have you seen such innovations assist nurses with clinical decision making and improve their ability to communicate, manage knowledge, and mitigate error?
3) What opportunities do you see for transforming knowledge in yourself and/or your workplace, based on the information in your textbook about the relationships between critical thinking and health informatics? (If informatics are not yet well integrated in your workplace, focus your response on this question.)
