5.The“breaking of the fourthwall”.
6.The use of abstraction
7.The use of collage
8.The use of surrealism
Using 7 or more animations, that you have seen during class or are listed in the weekly viewing list ,as examples.

1. Explain in detail how these animations use these strategies and what affect the strategies have to form ideas.
2. Explore technologies and techniques used in the animations.
3. Some up and explain your understandings and observations of animation in its
first 100 years.

What the assessor will be basing their assessment on:
• Are links made between the various films, techniques and strategies?
• Have all specified strategies been addressed? (Abstraction, Collage etc)
• Does the essay go beyond a mere description of the films?
• Has the essay question been addressed?
• Is there evidence of research?
• Is there proper referencing?
• Have arguments been presented clearly and concisely?
• Has student made creative connections between works identified and other
• issues relating to other cultural debates outside of animation?
• Does the essay give new insight in the animation reviewed?
