As the Frumkin readings illustrate, nonprofits engage in a wide variety of activities in American society. Write an essay focusing on one of the three non-service delivery quadrants in Frumkin�s framework (the matrix in chapter 1, page 25). In other words, you can write on �values and faith,� �social entrepreneurship� or �civic and political engagement.� The aim of this assignment is to more fully explore the domain of nonprofit activity, since most of the class focuses almost entirely on service delivery.
In your essay, be sure to discuss why nonprofits play such an active role in this area? Be sure to consider the rationale for nonprofit activity, the benefits to society, the relationship (or lack of) between the nonprofit sector and government, and any potential challenges and/or opportunities facing these nonprofit organizations in the future. Also, try to include specific examples of organizations and groups that are active in your chosen area.
