Introduction
This activity will serve to present an opportunity to work through the actual research, collection, and development of assessments of individuals with disabilities. You will gain significant knowledge and experience in researching the existence of such instruments, the gathering, and perusal of these instruments, and also in determining the utility and pertinent application of such assessments. Through this activity, you will gain significant experiences with the research of and review of factors involved with assessing individuals who have disabilities. There are times when the psychologist must form their own assessment, and knowing how this has been handled by their peers and the rigor involved with publishing will serve as an excellent platform for your search of the literature in order to make great recommendations.
Activity Instructions
Emerging adulthood is a time when many persons with developmental disabilities encounter increased psychological assessment. They have graduated from school, are adjusting to a range of work settings, are applying for federal assistance, and often are making the move from their family to a residential setting. You will need to use the course materials and outside research you have gathered from the suggested list of readings to prepare an assignment that describes helpful suggestions for test designers who are creating instruments for use with developmentally disabled individuals. This assignment will require research of what assessments are and are not available for this special population with special needs.
