Conversation (Argument) Topic: Is language usage (how language is used) important politically, socially or personally? And if so, how so?
The Speakers in this argument are going to be David Foster Wallace and George Orwell. The forst part of this assignment is to be done in groups of two in our class and each student is responsible for creating a two page SCRIPT argument using the information by the two chosen authors of theirs choice and then we will be combining each of our two pages of scripting argument into 4 pages to assign as a group work
Please do not use any information outside of the sources I have attached for you to create the dialogues for these two authors or I will be receiving a zero on the assignment. Only use the material written by these authors that I have personally attached for you to create the dialogues based on either PARAPHRASING the information from their writings or CRITICAL IMAGINATION on what they could be saying based on what they say in the articles by them that Ill be attaching for you.
This assignment must be done in 5 full pages (please do not hand me less than 5 pages of response excluding the student information (I will not need any student or course information blanks at the top of this assignment .
Part 1) pages 1-2: Please provide 2 pages of script dialogue between authors David Foster Wallace and George Orwell in which the are arguing or talking about the above-mentioned topic. The argument much be in play like dialogue format and not in essay or normal writing structure.. Please paraphrase any direct information and also create some dialogues base on the information they have given on the documents I will be attaching for you (written by these authors) based on your critical imagination of what they would say. So some of the dialogues are in paraphrased format and some are just critical imagination based on what they could possibly say because of what they point out in their writings that I would attach for you. The dialogues are going to be in play like format like David Foster: I think that language usage is becoming ….George Orwell: I agree but also I think that language is becoming more important due to x.
Please do not use any out side sources other than the sources I will provide for you to create the dialogues or I will loose grades significantly.
Please provide a setting information in a number of sentences for the dialogues at the start of the argument. For instance where is this taking place or how they start to talk about the topic.
Please provide works cited page for all the paraphrases at a separate page, in MLA.
Avoid using too many direct quotes. You need to paraphrase the authors’
arguments. You can use your imagination, but you need to stay consistent with the authors’ arguments.
Part 2) Pages 3-4:
For this part of assignment you are creating a two page summary (400 words) of
One of the texts or part of one text used for this assignment. Note that the two page summarizing must also be in dialogue format as well and must have its own separate works cited page because it is being handed in separately. Please see the separate Summarizing handout for this part of assignment in which it describes this part of assignment in more detail.
Part 3) page 5:
Please create a 1 page personal reflection (300 words) about the overall process of creating the scripting Argument assignment. There are no citations really needed for this part, as it is just a personal reflection supposed to be handed in at the end of the project.
* You can hand in this part of the project 2 days after the deadline because I will be handing it in 2 days after I have to hand in the first two parts.
