Literature Review Instructions
The literature review must contain the relevant research pertaining to foreign language anxiety – particular attention should be paid to the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale and the work of Horwitz. Additionally, a section concerning socio-cultural theory and the relevance to foreign language studies and research should be included.
The following should be used as guidance for the various sub headings:
Common theories on anxiety and language learning – inc. general & specific, State & Trait, facilitating & debilitating etc.
Foreign Language Anxiety – influences inc. Fear of Negative Evaluation, Communication Anxiety, Test Anxiety. These should include research on learner beliefs, motivation, teacher/peer interactions, cultural factors, and language acquisition.
Foreign Language Anxiety research in China
Sociocultural Theory in second language learning – inc. general overview, reference to Chinese context. As I used the STAI and FLCAS in the research please include a linkage between the validity of these tests and sociocultural theory.
