“Current Patterns or Behaviors Associated with Critical Thinking”
Reflect on where assessment processes come into daily nursing practice in your workplace?
Is it more of a systems checklist or does it truly involve the synthesis of information that involves reflection and critical thinking?
How can you reconsider personal habits and cognitive processes and make sure to include critical thinking in the provision of patient care?
Critical thinking skills related to “confidence,” “intuition,” “discrimination” and “predicting.”
Include how you may be able to improve your critical thinking by using examples from your nursing practice or experience in the discussion.
For example, share how you currently consider specific assessment data and how you may be able to improve the critical thinking process to improve patient outcomes and quality of care.
Example:
“Team Thinking” (p. 169). Review Box 7-2 in the text (p. 169) that shows eight roles that people can fulfill in team thinking that make the “team think” effective. The Eight team Thinking Roles identified by Bensimon and Neumann are:
1. The Definer (voices and creates the teams reality)
2. The analyst (assesses all of the parts of the issue)
3. The interpreter (provides insight on how outcomes might be perceived)
4. The critic (redefines, reanalyzes and reinterprets)
5. The synthesizer (elicits all thinking perspectives and helps provide linkages for solutions)
6. The disparity monitor (assesses how outcomes are perceived)
7. The task monitor (removes obstacles to team thinking and facilitates the teamwork) and
8. The emotional monitor (address the human, personal, and emotional aspects of team thinking during the thinking process.
